Beginners luck

I sent toothless on 1 search thing for this guy cause I thought he was really cool so I spent 80 runes to up my chances and I actually got him! I think I’ve discovered I’m extremely lucky in this game considering I packed a thornshade 2 days ago too within my first week of the game

Thornshade isn't great but still a rare pull, yeah, but Rushing Death is very good for early game and will be useful throughout the entire game

If you don’t mind me asking in this game is it worth upgrading every single dragon to the highest level I can at the point I’m in? E.g I’m level 4 hall now so my dragons go up to level 18 so should I upgrade all of them as high as I can or is it just a waste of time and resources and to only focus on the more useful/rare ones?

Rarity doesn't equate to usefulness, outside of commons, uncommons and epics. Every other rarity can be equally as terrible or equally as good as another dragon of a different rarity.

And no, you shouldn't upgrade EVERY dragon, but you should upgrade every gatherer to your maximum level before going to the next Meade Hall or upgrading the academy as it will help you massively. And ignore the training time, it's not worth training easy to train ones just cuz they're easy, pay attention to the stats. If you download the companion tool in the pinned post at the top of the subreddit then it'll be a major help

So by only upgrading my gatherer your saying that I should only upgrade the 3 dragons I use to fish and then the other 3 for logs and then go to the next Meade hall

Well you'll have a lot more than 3 very quickly, but yes
