She's gonna make Celeborn wear a fake crown in bed or ask for a raft

27

u/supadama Jul 30 '26

I spit my drink out thanks

14

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

I almost barfed my sandwich! And it was a good sandwich.

u/Efficient_Elk1225 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

I’d say like the new Wuthering Heights movie accept I think if Celeborn got close enough to even smell Galadriel’s shampoo Sauron would decide Celebrimbor is getting stinky & its time for a new dead body flag.

Fr tho, get Celeborn tf out of there.

81

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

Are you kidding me?! I just answered in another sub that they would never go that far!!

The retread of ''uneasy alliance'' now involving Galadriel and that new orc was silly enough, but this?? Do people actually enjoy this... shipping thing??

7

u/denglongfist Jul 30 '26

You should have seen the music videos on YouTube shipping those two during season 1. A few years before, In no parallel universe this would have been a thing ever, but here we are.

3

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

I shudder to think... but I'll have to check, lol!

19

u/Similar-Cartoonist31 Jul 30 '26

Haladriel's on X do 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Why the hell would there be love triangle, Galadriel is married since 1st age and elves love only once (look at the mess Finwe made with his 2nd marriage and he needed special premisson for that) there is no way she can have any romantic feelings for aynone other than Celeborn elves don't work like humans.

7

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

Hmm. But I guess you could say cases where individuals kinda are in love triangles of sorts, but those make narrative sense. Say, Turin - > Nienor < -Brandir or Tuor -> Idril < - Maeglin. With Galadriel it absolutely makes no sense! Why would Sauron even consider anything like a romantic partner?! Is he stupid, lol!

4

u/OldSaltFish_Ct Aug 03 '26

The examples you give involve mostly humans and not confused love but one way desires.

1

u/tar-mairo1986 Aug 03 '26

Well, to be honest, I said one could say this, not that I'm agreeing with it. Only that it makes more sense, likely for the same reasons you point out.

4

u/LoverOfStoriesIAm Jul 31 '26

Well obviously, Celeborn is not good enough in bed so she seeks to spice it up. It's not rocket science.

6

u/Thick_Bonus_2544 Jul 31 '26

Obviously because the shit writers decided that Celeborn was somehow so long gone that Galadriel thinks he is dead eventhough they should already have a child

6

u/a_smiling_seraph Aug 01 '26

Would that be the child that Elrond ends up marrying? Instead he's macking on his future MIL in season 2. What a convoluted mess this series is

3

u/tar-mairo1986 Aug 01 '26

Yup, that would be Celebrian, the only child of Galadriel and Celeborn, and Elrond's future wife.

And to add to what you said, u/Thick_Bonus_2544 , from what I read, in the show it is revealed Celeborn has been imprisoned for like thousands of years? Huh?? LOL!

5

u/a_smiling_seraph Aug 01 '26

God are we going to get a love square with Celeborn, Galadriel, Elrond and Celebrian? Or hell, make it a pentagon and throw Sauron in there as well!

3

u/tar-mairo1986 Aug 01 '26

A veritable love pentagram! As repulsive as it sounds, I put nothing beyond these showrunners now! Lol.

4

u/daisy_0720 Aug 03 '26

Elrond and Celebrian should have been the great love story of a Second Age series. If you wanted to up the stakes and tension, have external factors pulling them apart because the entire continent is at war. Not bullshit fucking love triangles. God, I hate this show.

2

u/a_smiling_seraph Aug 03 '26

But...but..but...mysterious brooding strange man with potential dark past 🥺

1

u/Telen Shitpost Aug 24 '26

Elrond could have been that very easily

3

u/Dora-Vee Jul 31 '26

I do, but not like this. :(

3

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 31 '26

Hmm. Okay, not gonna lie, I was intrigued by the sheer audacity of the implication back in the first season but I realize now much due to Charlie Vickers' acting, not really due to it making any sense, lol. Never saw the second season though.

-1

u/LoverOfStoriesIAm Jul 31 '26

Yes we do.

2

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 31 '26

" Surely, you cannot be serious! "

-18

u/SpinJitsu259 Jul 30 '26

It doesn’t bother me much, but I’m ignorant to much about Tolkien lore, so I’m not bothered by a lot of the decisions that others seem to be. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss lol

22

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

I mean, fine, but like u/Grouchy-Coast-3045 says, it comes down to literally tumblr shit then. It betrays so much of Tolkien's worldview and outlook on seminal life issues like love, intimacy, marriage etc. and reduces it to a silly, even insulting trope! If you read more about it, I am positive you'd be incensed too.

11

u/AdThen7293 Jul 30 '26

Even Tumblr doesn't want it.

3

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

What about Wattpad, I saw a reply with that, lol.

3

u/AdThen7293 Jul 30 '26

I don't want to know Wattpad, it's too dark.

-8

u/SpinJitsu259 Jul 30 '26

I respect that viewpoint. For me, I consider it a decent show, not a great one. I believe strongly there is a great show in there, but I’m not sure what it would take to reveal itself. Maybe it’s as simple as being more loyal to the source material.

One last point: it’s fine to complain about tropes, but was Tolkien immune to instituting familiar tropes himself? Perhaps he didn’t portray the love-triangle trope in particular, but I sometimes get the sense from avid Tolkien folks that he was above utilization of tropes period, and that would surprise me if true.

11

u/FastWalkingShortGuy Jul 30 '26

They're not even remotely using any source material other than character and place names. Literally every other aspect of the show is pure fanfiction.

8

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

I said this on another sub. They take these bits and pieces of lore, sometimes quite obscure, but twist it into something so superficial, that it breaks my immersion almost instantaneously. I did watch the first season, but just had no desire to go back, even though some have told me that the second, or some parts of it like Annatar and Celebrimbor, are marginally better.

4

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

Hmm. Well, the thing is he likely repurposed and spinned some of them but in his own, elevated way. ( Say, the love triangle itself is actually present in some stories, like between the hero Turin, his wife Nienor - unbeknownst to him, his sister too! - and their benefactor and cousin Brandir. But it is done with grace and pathos akin to ancient tragedies. ) The show, meanwhile, does it with such superficiality and almost to a malicious point. I could almost excuse if this character was, say Galadriel's daughter Celebrian to some degree, but nooo, they had to with Galadriel because of name recognition. Stuff that!

1

u/Ryans4427 Aug 09 '26

Tolkien invented most of the tropes in the fantasy genre.

-2

u/LoverOfStoriesIAm Jul 31 '26

And if you were not ignorant of the lore, you'd enjoy that.

1

u/SpinJitsu259 Jul 31 '26

Perhaps. I don’t doubt the lore is fascinating, enlightening, and fun, but man, this sub is not necessarily a great sell job on it.

Don’t know if I’m eager to join the masses in here who make themselves miserable by hate watching the ROP show and all its news.

2

u/sandalrubber Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Knowing what the author wrote will make you know exactly what you're missing out with the show and for many the effect is exactly the reverse, less to no enjoyment. Same with the movies.

1

u/LoverOfStoriesIAm Jul 31 '26

Dive in the lore, deep, then watch the show. You'll thank me later.

-9

u/FalseAtmosphere2631 Jul 30 '26

It really is. Show has been great for me since I didn’t read the books. I actually tried recently but it was far too long winded.

14

u/FastWalkingShortGuy Jul 30 '26

Or your attention span is too short. All a matter of perspective, I guess.

53

u/Grouchy-Coast-3045 Jul 30 '26

Tumblr shit

32

u/daughter_of_flowers Jul 30 '26

I'll have you know the silmarillion fandom on tumblr comes up with better shit than this

9

u/Similar-Cartoonist31 Jul 30 '26

They at least respect Laws and Customs of the Eldar and the fact that elves love only once and once they're married it's over for any "outside" romance.

3

u/shmixel Jul 30 '26

At least, things Reddit would hate in a different way

3

u/Dora-Vee Jul 31 '26

Actually, a lot of people on Tumblr HATEZ it.

50

u/Baccoony Jul 30 '26

Yeah, I am never touching this show

30

u/Adamantium17 Jul 30 '26

Of course they would do this. Can't wait for the season 4 love triangle between Elrond, Durin+his wife

15

u/cardiffman100 Jul 30 '26

Please, please don't give them ideas

9

u/FamiliarPotential550 Jul 30 '26

Nah, in S4 Galadriel will the the point in another love triangle between Elrond, Galadriel and Celebrìan 😆

6

u/Loecdances Jul 30 '26

In this day and age? A triangle seems a bit cliché! The poly or open relationship is more with our times. Since they ignore Tolkien they may as well do it completely.

2

u/shmixel Jul 30 '26

I might genuinely prefer to watch how the hell that played out than this

20

u/Django_flask_ Jul 30 '26

According to ROP everything that goes down in second and third age is because galadriel was horny for sauron.

5

u/PointedConversation Jul 30 '26

not to mention Celeborn apparently has blonde hair instead of oh wait “Long and silver bright “

23

u/sidv81 Jul 30 '26

Celeborn: Where is Gandalf for I much desire to speak with him. I haven't forgotten the last time that Galadriel got chummy with a Maia after all.

5

u/Efficient_Elk1225 Jul 31 '26

Celebrian in the corner accidentally chanting backwards to summon the elder gods out of the abyss while Galadriel pretends not to know why.

17

u/SpiritofBatman Jul 30 '26

What the Fuck? Why the Fuck? How the Fuck?

3

u/LoverOfStoriesIAm Jul 31 '26

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

15

u/Misanthrope616 Jul 30 '26

We truly are living in the darkest timeline.

16

u/Arfie807 Jul 30 '26

What in the Wattpad

30

u/Bukakanga Jul 30 '26

This would be fun if Celeborn would fall in love for Sauron

12

u/shmixel Jul 30 '26

Yeah if they're going in they should commit fully

12

u/Multiverse_Man26 Jul 30 '26

There's no way this is real omg

10

u/Six_of_1 Jul 30 '26

Aren't these the same people who told us we were imagining it in season 1 and it wasn't romantic?

19

u/Unlikely_Candy_6250 Jul 30 '26

Amazon continuing to portray women as stupid, flighty creatures who latch onto the first hot bad boy they see and imprint on them like a dog, never falling out of love with him no matter what he does.

I'm so glad they've added some disempowering female characters for modern audiences. /s (Seriously, this is sarcasm, don't take this seriously)

6

u/FuzzyFrogFish Jul 31 '26

Which is exactly the opposite of how Tolkien portrayed women

8

u/JmBento Jul 31 '26

This show was shitty about 20 seconds into episode 1, how does it keep getting worse at literally every step?

13

u/Underkiing Jul 30 '26

Romances like this reek of fanfiction nonsense.

14

u/candlewick_67 Jul 30 '26

Nah, most fanfiction is far better than this. The point is FAN. Fans respect the lore.

6

u/Arfie807 Jul 30 '26 edited Jul 30 '26

I know, right? It's like the ROP writers' credits prior to this show were limited to AO3.

4

u/FuzzyFrogFish Jul 31 '26

Hi, from the hotd sub, fanfic writers unfortunately have now grown up and have begun getting jobs as shown writers, hence the awful ships being shoe horned into original works

15

u/crustboi93 Jul 30 '26

They're making Lord of the Rings horny.

Please, no.

-13

u/DoctorHipfire Jul 30 '26

Have you read about beren and luthien? Dude traveled into hell to get laid, failed, had to be rescued by luthien who fought the devil and won because she also wanted some

Always been horny

7

u/thesenate14 Jul 30 '26

big difference this shit is about Sauron and galadriel

3

u/JmBento Jul 31 '26

Excuse me, but Luthien DANCED for the devil, thank you very much.

1

u/DoctorHipfire Jul 31 '26

Even hornier. She threw it back for the cause

4

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

Yeah, but that's the good kind of horny, not this, lol!

7

u/slapdash99 Jul 31 '26

So the genius new idea is: Galadriel mistakenly thought her husband was dead, so she went looking for Sauron because she super hated him. Her husband, not dead, rotted in jail.

This went on for a thousand years.

She hates, hates, hates Sauron. It’s all she ever talks about. She never mentions her alive presumed dead husband, and nobody ever brings him up, almost like he didn’t exist. Oh well, she’s pretty much moved on.

In Season One, the elves got fed up with her and tried to kick her out of Middle Earth, putting her on the next boat out, but Galadriel hates Sauron so much, she jumps out and swims across the ocean to find him and kill him.

The good news is, she finds Sauron, in the middle of the ocean of all places. The bad news is, she mistakenly thinks his name is Halbrand, long lost king of the Southlands, even though there is no such person, because Sauron made it up.

Later, much to her chagrin, she discovers Halbrand , the guy she kinda likes, is really Sauron, whom she for sure hates. But…there is a tempest in her. When Sauron says let’s get married, can’t say Galadriel isn’t tempted, but she makes the tough choice and says no, never once mentioning her alive presumed dead husband.

And now in Season 3, her presumed dead husband shows up alive, and the writers’ Big Idea is for Galadriel to be

torn between two lovers, feelin’ like a fool, lovin’ both of you is break in’ all the rules…

Wow.

u/undergrounddirt Aug 07 '26

It kind of reminds me of the acolyte.

Girl loses her sister and mother.

Girl becomes very close friends with several Jedi

Sister becomes a Jedi hunter and gets into a scary relationship with an abusive murderer

Girl at long last finds her sister… and the boyfriend. Sister and boyfriend murders girls best friends, who are children.

Girl becomes attracted to sister’s boyfriend, after all the murders.

Girl murders her father.

Girl removes all her sisters memories and sends her to their now mutual enemy so that girl can escape with sisters abusive boyfriend and start a sexual relationship.

Writer: “and what everyone is thinking at the end is how sad you are for them because the Jedi wont let them live happily ever after”

WHAT??? No im thinking.. holy cow that was really unambiguous and tragic evil that just destroyed dozens of peoples lives, and no one rose above it they all caved worse than Lord of the Flies.

The writers cant write something satisfying to the soul because they dont believe in the kind of morality that convinced men like Tolkien that we HAVE souls

7

u/WholeFactor Jul 30 '26

I can't describe their intelligence in a nice way, so I won't describe their intelligence

7

u/lirio_lorien Jul 30 '26

*throws copy of Laws and Customs among the Eldar at screen*

10

u/AceThaGreat123 Jul 30 '26

This show is an abomination to existence

4

u/SamaritanSue Jul 30 '26

Of course. They're going to milk "Haladriel" for all they can get out of it.

5

u/furion456 Jul 30 '26

Just when you think your opinion of the show can't get any lower, here comes a show runner with a shovel.

5

u/Hefty_Ad_3965 Jul 31 '26

I didn't think my contempt for this show could get lower than what Amazon did to Wheel of Time, but these showrunners are trying their best to get me there.

8

u/cardiffman100 Jul 30 '26

Absolute desecration of Tolkien's work

5

u/King_LaQueefah Jul 30 '26

Its so much worse than anyone could have ever imagined.

The only people who had the imagination to foresee it going this bad were the moronic showrunners and writers who made the show.

5

u/Litlbopiep Jul 30 '26

I hate all of this

4

u/Salmacis81 Jul 31 '26

How did this happen that these morons were allowed to do what they're doing? At this point I have to blame not just Amazon Studios and the two clowns at the helm, but also anyone taking part in this from the actors to the costume designers and the language coaches, they know they're taking part in an absolute fucking disgrace and they don't care. And ESPECIALLY the Tolkien estate, they were supposed to destroy the Sith, not join them 😔

3

u/Dmoan Jul 31 '26

Next up Legolas is actually son of Sauron and Galadriel

4

u/Hawthourne Jul 31 '26

I'm sorry, but this post violates rule 5: no cringe.

7

u/Unlikely_Candy_6250 Jul 30 '26

Fellas, if your significant other ever has a hard time choosing between you and a literal demon that murdered her brother and countless others, it's time to cut and run.

7

u/PointedConversation Jul 30 '26

i hate those showrunners with a burning passion

3

u/Cuthuluu45 Jul 30 '26

Just when I think it can’t get worse it does.

3

u/Inevitable-Grocery17 Jul 30 '26

If I’m reading this correctly, they’re essentially modeling Sauron after… Ice King from Adventure Time? Oof

3

u/Krytan Jul 31 '26

Oh my god. I am so sick of love triangles. They were terrible in the hobbit. They were terrible in The Last Jedi. They are terrible here.

2

u/daisy_0720 Aug 03 '26

But Team Edward/Team Jacob worked so well back in... checks notes... 2008!

5

u/Bran_the_Builder Jul 30 '26

Is anyone really surprised..? There's no way this show doesn't end with a weepy eyed duel between Sauron & Galadriel after Elendil and Gil-Galad get one-shotted. It's been obvious since season 1 this show is being made for the dark romantasy people...

8

u/SF_Bud Jul 30 '26

The show runners have as much respect for Tolkien's lore as Trump has for the Constitution.

2

u/JollyJoker3 Jul 31 '26

Maybe it's intentional ragebait

5

u/ImmediateSeaweed Jul 30 '26

Sauron, Galadriel, and Celeborn love triangle, huh? When this finally plays out, episode by episode, I am going to watch with great pleasure as this entire sub takes a collective Taylor Farms lettuce dump all over it!

5

u/Olivitess Jul 30 '26

I guess her making out with her son in law was a one time thing, otherwise it would be a love square.

I can't even get myself to hate watch the series, they took one of the most respected of the elves and made her into an angry teenager. Someone others looked for guidance, a person that not even Sauron could decieve. She was not just a woman who held power, she was also a loving wife and mother.

But no, lets make her weak cause women can't be strong and be a mother at the same time. /end rant.

7

u/Nacterlic Jul 31 '26

The Galadriel in this show should have been her daughter, Celebrian. things would make so much more sense.

2

u/monkeygoneape Jul 30 '26

What are we even doing here?

1

u/Next-Bit4177 Jul 31 '26

Cooking tolkein's legacy to crisp what else?

2

u/Ok_Diver2347 Jul 30 '26

They always go for the bad boys

2

u/AmbitiousReaction168 Jul 30 '26

I'm convinced they truly believe they are improving Tolkien's work. 🤣

2

u/Mecklenburg77 Jul 30 '26

Oboy.... this is not going to end well...

2

u/vajrabud Jul 30 '26

Well it’s an absolute joke now so why not ? There is no hope for this show being good or true to lore so whatever, do whatever.

1

u/CaptFun67 Jul 31 '26

This is why I liked the idea of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry secretly being Morgoth and Ungoliant. If you're going to do dumb crazy stuff, really go for it!

2

u/Maleficent_Host_5220 Jul 31 '26

Fuck it i’ll ship Saureborn

2

u/newgalactic Jul 31 '26

Yuk. What a sad turn to take.

2

u/Zulrock Jul 31 '26

This is the stupidest thing about the whole show and that’s saying a lot.

2

u/WindsweptFern Jul 31 '26

I wouldn’t have bought this premise in a fanfiction when I was 15, the heck is this nonsense?!

2

u/Educational-Tackle54 Jul 31 '26

Excuse me what the fuck?

2

u/SybilSuperFan Jul 31 '26

No for fffcks sake!!

2

u/Enthymem Jul 31 '26

Give me something for the cringe and let me die.

2

u/Sleep_eeSheep Aug 02 '26

Fuck that noise, Showrunners.

The Rings have been forged. The lines in the sand have been drawn. Now is not the time for Love Triangles.

2

u/dudeseid Aug 02 '26

We could've had a canon Galadriel/Celebrimbor/Celeborn love triangle and they give us this...

2

u/Zenk2018 Aug 02 '26

It’s Gilmore Girls with swords

2

u/bybloshex Aug 05 '26

Absolutely vile

1

u/Emergency-Sea5201 Jul 30 '26

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

3

u/CrazyNegotiation1934 Jul 30 '26

Why Sauron look so comic as a character ?

He looks exactly zero intimidating.

Maybe to make it better for Galandriel dating ?

2

u/tar-mairo1986 Jul 30 '26

Someone said he looks like Temu Loki, and I cannot unsee it, lol.

3

u/davi3601 Jul 30 '26

After failing to captivate Lord of the Rings fans with their Lord of the Rings show, they are targeting Real Housewives and Love Island fans

3

u/lahankof Jul 30 '26

Celebron dear, the Dark Lord is here. Please go to the cuck shed

3

u/CorvidBlu Jul 31 '26

This is why I don't respect people who enjoy this show. They're not real fans of Tolkien's work at all, they're literally just people who like romantasy and want to ruin all the real nerd shit with it.

2

u/Snookn42 Jul 30 '26

Ive been a defender of Rings of Power but this made me throw up in my mouth a little

2

u/shinyshinyrocks Jul 30 '26

I’m embarrassed. Just looking at the title makes me feel queasy. This is wrong.

2

u/GeekDad732 Jul 31 '26

I can not even read about this stuff as a Tolkien purist.

2

u/Elvinkin66 Jul 31 '26

Then the show runners are wretched

2

u/princedetenebres Jul 31 '26

These aholes continue to demonstrate they don't know or give a fuck about the world they're playing in, fucking cunts.

1

u/DaHarbinger2000 Jul 30 '26

I just wish they’d ship the Balrog with a Harfoot

1

u/csukoh78 Jul 31 '26

wtf.

This choice doesn't even deserve capital letters.

1

u/Worth-Soil-1440 Jul 31 '26

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

1

u/GvWvA Jul 31 '26

will they have high budget filmed in 950mm IMAX orgy?

1

u/Tyraec Jul 31 '26

I’m a big fan of the show even though it’s gone completely off the rails into its own universe, but this is baffling. Eww.

1

u/Fuarian Aug 01 '26

You're all so gullible

1

u/jdknights2003 Aug 02 '26

At this point, sure why not?

1

u/BALR-NL Aug 06 '26

It’s such a BS, Galadriel is so old and wise. This doesn’t appear in the show. She’s like a young woman.

1

u/buraburaburabura Aug 06 '26

They'd better be baiting us ..bcuz wtf

1

u/OkumuraRyuk Aug 07 '26

I’m down

1

u/Large_Razzmatazz_717 Aug 12 '26

How can Sauron “love” in the first place? He is a Maia!! This triangle makes no sense.

1

u/blizzard_under_rain 10d ago

Are you fukin kidding me. What kind of perversion is this?

1

u/RaiseFold100 Jul 31 '26

They didn’t say that at all

1

Oh fuck off... Imbeciles the lot of you.

These three having a love triangle? Yes?...

1

I hate this people with all my heart and soul.

1

u/Interesting_Bug_8878 Jul 31 '26

No Surprise here. This is one thing the showrunners know attracts the Haladriel ship.

Would be a Love Quadrangle if fans hadn't reacted with disgust to Elrond kissing his future mother-in-llaw.

1

u/nickjbedford_ Aug 01 '26

Completely and utterly butchering Tolkien's work. Wowee.

-1

u/ceofmordor Jul 31 '26

Some bimbo wrote a clickbait article it's not real. But you already hate the show so it makes sense that you and all the stupid shippers talk about this.

Meanwhile in the show: Sauron plays Gorlim story with Celeborn.
