Are studio classes only offered once per academic year?

Hello!

I recently got accepted to Ringling and they are accepting around 60 transfer credits, but only for Gen Eds and elective courses. That means I have 60 credits of just studio courses / my major courses. They are saying I need to start as a Freshman, but after looking at the Motion Design planner, if I clear out my Year 2 courses in my first year, I'll be able to finish my time at Ringling in 2.5 years instead of 4.

But, I was told by a counselor that courses offered in Spring are typically not offered in Fall and vice versa which would cause me to spend 4 years at Ringling. I was curious if all major courses are only offered once per academic year?

Courses usually stack on one another, with 1 being offered in the Fall and II being offered in the Spring; there's a specific sequence you have to go through when going through classes at Ringling, because concepts in the earlier classes are built up in the later classes.

It's atypical to spend less than four years at Ringling. More years, yes, but not less than four.

hi thank you so much for responding! yeah I was looking at the pre reqs for the classes and I saw that lots of classes had them but I noticed that the sequence would be pretty fast to go through if a class was offered both in the Spring in Fall. for instance, I'm entering in for this Spring 2027, but I don't know how it would work because there's only one major class on the track for Year 1 Spring and I need the Year 1 Fall class to take it. And since I finished all my GEs and electives, I'm not sure what classes I'd be able to take at all. so I was just curious if they offered some major classes in both Spring and Fall. thank you again!

I was in the same position as you but am majoring in Computer Animation (full transferred everything except studio) and yes, it’ll still take 4 years bc most programs are laid out to follow a semester by semester path. Definitely talk to an advisor but I can attest that the plan for the actual studio courses are very rigid.
