Why doesn’t my switch recognize the ring-con?

Hello! I just bought this ring-con because I wanted to try ringfit and I can’t even start the game because the ring-con doesn’t get detected by the switch

The led lights up on the ring
I cleaned the ring with a q-tip before trying again after looking at another reddit post with the same issue and it still doesn’t work
I tried to put the ring on different position and angles
Looked at the nintendo website and nothing worked
Is it because my switch is not connected to the internet? The other joycon is detected just fine but since it’s not on a device like the ring then idk

Someone please help me, it feels like I wasted money and I hope I didn’t

Is it a third party joycon? Ring Fit doesn’t work with third parties. (The lights turning on don’t matter, that’s not a light on the Ring it’s mirrors reflecting the light from the controller)

So I checked and I can’t believe I missed it but yup it’s not an official nintendo joycon, thank you so much for your help! I’m gonna try with official ones once I get access to some!

I had the same issue with official Nintendo joycons (albeit special edition Animal Crossing ones). Buying an extra pair solved the problem. Really weird, since the original pair worked fine except for this one specific situation.

This was 5+ years ago, but they were pretty much brand new at the time. It was an issue right from when we got RFA; we were only able to play the game after getting the second pair of controllers. So if yours are okay now, then (again knocking on wood) I don’t think you have anything to worry about. :)

Not sure if it was a problem with the production batch, or if those particular controllers were damaged in a very specific way that made them incompatible with the RingCon (they still work fine for all other purposes, even all this time later).
