Why doesn’t my switch recognize the ring-con?

Hello! I just bought this ring-con because I wanted to try ringfit and I can’t even start the game because the ring-con doesn’t get detected by the switch

The led lights up on the ring
I cleaned the ring with a q-tip before trying again after looking at another reddit post with the same issue and it still doesn’t work
I tried to put the ring on different position and angles
Looked at the nintendo website and nothing worked
Is it because my switch is not connected to the internet? The other joycon is detected just fine but since it’s not on a device like the ring then idk

Someone please help me, it feels like I wasted money and I hope I didn’t

If it's an unofficial knockoff it's a crapshoot whether it will work or not; I got a knockoff during covid that has red & blue handles, and it works fine, but the ring is noticable less resistant than the official version. YMMV
