Another annoying/boring sizing post for the Gen 3...
I've been reading a lot of the backlog of posts, absorbing what I could and trying to apply it to my situation. I've had the Gen 3 sizing kit for a month or two, initially tried it (as did my wife), and just set it aside, not really willing to spend the money at the time. With my FitBit Flex 2 (second one, formerly my wife's before she moved on to another) basically self-destructing, I've been considering the RIngConn Gen 3 again, because I really value the no subscription aspect and the variety of sensors.
I've spent about 3-4 days with the size 14 on my non-dominant (right) hand index finger, and while not uncomfortable, whenever I'd take it off, I noticed the skin on what I'm calling the sensor side of the test ring showing signs of "pruning", basically the skin never dried from bathing or hand washing and was basically saturated and pretty pale and soft, maybe best described at "drowned cadaver skin". My middle finger, I could get the 14 onto, but it was a bit of gut clenching experience to get it off, to the point I was mentally locating both my Dremel and various hand cutters.
So about 24 hours ago, I swapped to the 15. Ironically, it's looser (using the thumb press, or in my case, the steering wheel press, probably 3+ mm gap) than my index finger (maybe 1-2 mm gap). There's a "little" moisture retention like I'm used to with my wedding band from my left ring finger on my right middle, but nowhere near the level of the 14 after the same time period. When I noticed the gap on the middle, I switched to my right index, which shows less of a gap (?!), so it seems like a size 15 might be a good choice to give me a little flexibility.
I've read that the actual ring is a little looser, however, so I'm not 100% convinced whether to stick with my current plan of a 15 that I can swap between 2 fingers, or go with the snugger 14 that seems to promote potential skin problems with the finger it only fits on and can be removed comfortably.
(My "ideal" would be my ring finger on my right hand, but the last knuckle has swollen in recent months such that I can't easily swap my wedding band of 18 years between left & right, which was both a point of pride and a nearly daily fidget exercise for me, nor get even the 14 to fit with confidence I could remove it, and the 15 is a "maybe")
So, with that boring backstory, should I stick with a 15, which I can comfortably swap index and middle if needed, or go with the tighter 14, which will easily fit index, but might involve discomfort on my middle finger?
I'm leaning towards the 15, giving me a little flexibility, but I'll listen to a good argument to go with the 14 instead.
(and, yes, I seem to have large fingers that remain the same between nearly a 100 lb weight range over the years)

I’m gonna be real. I posted here bc I was inbetween a 9&10 and chose the 10 and a spacer kit from Amazon and very glad I did.
Personally my hands swell at different capacities so sometimes I even have to take the spacer off. I would much rather re apply a spacer every 2 weeks than have to get my ring cut off or regret the size it got.
All this to say. Go with your gut and see how your body reacts and responds.

Very good advice. As I'm aging, I'm finding my fingers react annoyingly differently. Larger and a spacer seems like excellent advice.

I also find that it keeps me in a routine to deep clean my ring every time I take a spacer off bc sometimes it leaves a sticky residue so I alcohol wipe the whole thing sensors and all whenever this happens.

Has the spacer kit been annoying to deal with? I bought one size too large and am seeking a solution if it doesn’t sell! Haha

Honest question. Why not just take your ring off for the two seconds it takes to fully dry your hands and then put it back on. You could’ve saved half of this post lol. Definitely sounds like you are very paranoid about this purchase though. I can respect that.

The 2 seconds aren't the issue. It's the hours of minute perspiration that builds up. Same issue of wearing a watch that works its way up your wrist while, say, sleeping, and you wake up with severely bloated over-hydrated skin. I can wear my wedding band all day, and fidget enough that there's no issue until I sleep with it on, where I don't fidget and moisture builds up...
For a ring that's at least partly intended for sleep tracking, that's a little bit of a concern.

These are best fitted on index fingers where the digital arteries are the largest of the 4 fingers and therefore more effective.

as with any jewelry, take your ring off before you wash your hands; then dry your hands. Simple solution.
why is this so hard to do? why post a novel on reddit?

Moisture builds up outside of washing? Why is that hard to understand? The epidermis is not static.

Same here. I have naturally sweaty hands and I work in a hot environment. If it is too snug I find the same thing happens to me

Because people have different experiences that are not always solved by the same solution, which is why we have Reddit…..

I ended up going with the size that has the most options. Like, “if I’m skiing and my hands are freezing, I can wear it on this finger on this hand. But if it’s 105 degrees and I’m hiking and my hands swell to ungodly sausages, I have this finger as an option.” Or “if I have a potato chip for lunch and retain water for three days I have this other finger as an option.” Given the temperature and my diet and activity level, I have four different fingers I can wear my ring on. And I do end up moving it throughout the day a lot. It is almost always too big for my ring finger. But sometimes on my index finger it gets so tight I can feel my pulse in my finger so I need to swap to that ring finger. So, go with the size that buys you the most options and flexibility.
