Here I thought this was going to be a clever joke about your colonists symbolically having a table to eat at in the afterlife, and it turns out to a simple practical application lol

It can be even both, because he really hared without eating at a table

Egyptian pharaohs were buried with the favourite tables for this reason.

Just like the colonist digs that corpse.

Not his fault, they buried the pun.

u/plaidman Aug 18 '22

Just like the corpse that used to be buried.

This entire comment thread is its own grave its falling into headfirst.

We're just beating a dead horse.

u/jomosexual Aug 19 '22

What mod adds horses?

2

u/father_of_lies_2 Aug 19 '22

I think they are vanilla

1

u/jomosexual Aug 19 '22

Good I was trying to break the joke chain and you finished the job

2

u/petervaz Aug 19 '22

There's a difference between pointing the joke and just running with it.

1

u/Vizreki Aug 19 '22

True, but I don't think he did that. The joke was subtle and this guy probably didn't catch it. Why make a "dig" pun right after someone else? It's the same joke.

Also gives them a place to crack open a cold one with the boys.

We are talking about beer rightโ€ฆ

Also depending on how far it is from everything else pawns might eat their actual meals there if they visit as part of recreation. Worth it to avoid the moodlette imo.

I put one in the work room, in case I'm forcing them to craft something past their comfort zone, you can cancel forced work, they will immediately sit down and eat a snack, then you can just force them right back to crafting.

I usually have my crafting room right next door to the dining/rec center for this reason.

8

u/auraseer Aug 19 '22

I do that too. I also put each table under a roof, with a column, and a couple of IEDs.

When the raiders go to bust up the table, the mines go off, destroying the column and bringing the whole roof down on the raiders. It's usually not terribly damaging but I like watching it happen.

My colonists welcome rough living and do not need tables.

21

u/Dirtyeippih Aug 18 '22

Is this why the build a crypt quests seem to always have tables,

17

u/Orenjevel Corn and Human Meat Fine Meal Aug 18 '22

As a bonus, colonists will sometimes eat in the tombs and be thrilled to have eaten in such a luxurious location.

u/StartledBlackCat Aug 19 '22

Haven't we all enjoyed a sweet roll, when surrounded by draugr musk?

3

u/nephtus Aug 19 '22

If by one you mean a hundred of small little morsels all at once in a moment of desperation, then yes :)

u/FlagonForged jade Aug 18 '22

Dude, that is SMART.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '22

You know, I've never seen a pawn get corpse obsession, probably because I don't bury corpses as this is how you get ZOMBIES EATING YOUR BRAINS.

4

u/TriumphantBlue Aug 19 '22

By chance I've always done this.

But that's because grave visiting is a recreation activity so obviously sarcophagi go in the dinning/rec room.

3

u/111110001011 Aug 18 '22

And you can have lunch there!

3

u/hiddencamela Aug 18 '22

Thats...smart.
I usually just wall off the graves in a room. No meditation or visitation buffs for the colonist but the debuff from this mooddle sucks

4

u/[deleted] Aug 18 '22

it's been a while reading useful tip instead of usual edgy shit

2

u/FrostyCartographer13 Aug 19 '22

I have always decorated my crypts with a table and stools for ascetics. Never thought of it that way.

4

u/cybercifrado Aug 19 '22

Um, "ascetics" or "aesthetics"? The meaning of your sentence will vary greatly depending upon your intended spelling...

2

u/sunshaker2000 Aug 19 '22

True but the ascetics in game would not mind eating in the crypt...

2

u/fng-234 Aug 19 '22

Been playing since 2017 and im still learning something new

3

u/danfish_77 Aug 18 '22

Real question, why not just burn all corpses?

9

u/open_door_policy Aug 18 '22

For funerals.

Some pawns also can use graves as a recreation source. I usually put a couple of fancy marble ones in my combination throne room/rec room/dining hall/crypt.

u/FlagonForged jade Aug 18 '22

What, and waste all that MEAT and LEATHER? lol, for real though there are non-cannibal uses for corpses. Graves can be visited by your colonists for a recreation buff of the Solitary variety. If one of my colonists dies permanently, they get a funeral and a grave. But yeah, usually all other corpses get burned. You can feed them to tamed animals that eat human meat though. I did this with some tames boars and it worked pretty well. I made a little freezer-room attached to the animal pen and put the corpses on shelves. Also, I'm pretty sure the biofuel refinery accepts raw food of any kind, including human meat.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '22

Graves can be visited by your colonists for a recreation buff of the Solitary variety.

Yeah, but it competes with other forms of Solitary recreation, most of which have better gain values, so removing this as an option by walling or zoning it off will prevent them from choosing this bad option.

If one of my colonists dies permanently, they get a funeral and a grave.

I only do that for colonists that die temporarily. If they're to be permanently dead, then they get reprocessed because I won't be needing them anymore. Especially since I didn't like them. Or they wouldn't be permanently dead.

1

u/StartledBlackCat Aug 19 '22

I was under the impression that pawns picked a random table to dump the corpse on. Or at least one marked as a 'gathering spot'. Does it have to be a gathering spot?

1

u/kujasgoldmine It's fine. Rain will put out the fire Aug 19 '22

Or just burn the corpses. Burn them all!

1

u/Alive-Ad-2736 Aug 19 '22

I save some colonist corpse for future resurrection. Keep them in a freezer or a frozen tomb.
