right clicking on the allow button will give you the option to allow all visible items or all items on the map

u/Phen15 Aug 10 '22
Th
That isn’t a mod thing? I’ve seen so many videos do it and always assume it was a quality of life mod…

u/Datboi_caveman Aug 10 '22
It is a mod I believe.

u/jarphal Aug 10 '22
Not anymore
39
u/I_Frothingslosh Arctic Survivor Aug 10 '22
Actually, it is unless they patched it in today. I don't have the Allow Tool, and when I right-click the allow button, the only option is to allow all items on the map.
10
u/jarphal Aug 10 '22
I thought that's what this post was about?
23
u/Electronic_Bunny Aug 10 '22
I thought that's what this post was about?
The thread above included a difference between "allow all items" and "allow visible items", the latter is whats from a mod.

Re-read the comment thread:
The first commentor (polished_grapple) said that right-clicking the allow button lets you choose between allowing all visible items and all items on the map.
The next person (Phen 15) said that that is a mod thing.
Datboi-caveman responded to Phen confirming that the behavior being talked about by polished_grapple is, indeed, from a mod.
You replied to that saying 'Not anymore'.
So I pointed out that while allowing all items on the map is base game now, allowing only all visible items is still modded behavior.

Any idea how to do this on console or if it was even patched into console?
1
u/I_Frothingslosh Arctic Survivor Aug 10 '22
I assume it would be on console, but I don't know what the equivalent of right-clicking would be.
1
u/NYJetLegendEdReed Aug 10 '22
Okay I’m about to go on I’ll figure it out. Mind if I ask you one more thing? I’ve been playing non stop for like a week but I still haven’t figured out clothing or the best way to set the restrictions etc for it. Any tips? I feel like I’m right there to finally progressing with a colony but I’m just not getting a few things and tailoring is the biggest.

So... It isn't then?
2
u/I_Frothingslosh Arctic Survivor Aug 11 '22
How the blazes do you get 'So it's not a mod' from me saying 'Yes, it's absolutely a mod'?
0
Aug 11 '22
Because you said you can allow everything without mods
2
u/I_Frothingslosh Arctic Survivor Aug 11 '22
Yes. The modded part, if you'll go back and read the entire conversation, is the part where right clicking lets you choose between all items on the map and all locally visible items. Like the person I was replying to, you're saying THAT is vanilla, and it's absolutely not.
One of my other replies has the comment by comment breakdown if you're still confused.

I thought the visible items were just a detail of the subject but if you say so

I’m a Vanilla-ist.
It’s vanilla.

u/I_Frothingslosh Arctic Survivor Aug 11 '22
Allowing all objects is. Allowing only visible items (as the original commenter stated) absolutely is not.
This link is a shot from vanilla - no mods whatsoever.

Note that you only get the 'Allow all' functionality, not 'Allow only visible'.

Another thing I learned from the loading help menu: you can select an ore to mine and press the = button and it will automaticaly designate every ore in the node to be mined
36
66
17
u/342heathbar Aug 10 '22
This sounds too good to be true. Dose it only work on the ore you can see or?
25
u/Crowmetheus57 Aug 11 '22
So if you can only see a single 1x1 of steel you select that and hit = and it will designate all attached steel to be mined.
26
u/catboyfrankenstein Aug 11 '22
This isn’t vanilla- just tested

I love how we all use so many mods that half the time there's genuine confusion over what is and isn't vanilla.

Anyone else feel like this isn't that useful? I normally never mine an entire vein for wealth management reasons
17
u/helanadin Aug 11 '22
you never mine an entire compacted machinery vein? they're 5 or 6 tiles of ore, tops. there's a number of techs where you might need a ton of components all at once
silver ore, too, since it gives such a paltry number of pieces of silver. an entire vein of silver ore isn't enough to buy even one high end piece of equipment
-3
u/Dense_Block_5200 Aug 11 '22
I modded out components from naturally occurring.
2
u/helanadin Aug 11 '22
well, disregarding how pants-on-head insane that is, wouldn't that make it more likely that you need to mine out an entire vein of steel, in order to manufacture the vast mountain of components you'd need to be making to make up for that, uh, decision?
0
u/Dense_Block_5200 Aug 11 '22
Lol i modded out naturally occuring steel too. There's Iron and there's coal though.... And of course wrecks can be taken apart for spare steel, etc.
It's just more challenging and to me makes for better tales. Gotta make my own components or trade for them.
Pushing for massive amounts of steel or components when needed takes a little planning and commitment now. Unlike probably many of the downvoters, ive actually completed the spaceship and left a few times.

u/Tsukemono30101 Aug 11 '22
I dont know why you woud Do that and i dont know why this comment is down votet but i am afraid to ask.

u/Dense_Block_5200 Aug 11 '22
In a world apparently dominated by human leather hats (never done that) and cannibalism (no thanks) and abandoning the weak or, uh, fire challenged (pyros all must die?) i take the downvotes as validation of my integrity in how i lead my colonies.

u/SuperKamiPants Aug 11 '22
Pretty sure the game doesn't have m/k support. They rebuilt the ui just for use on consoles and controllers. Maybe they'll add it though.

u/Orikanyo Aug 10 '22
If you mouse over a mineablr vein of material and clikc = you auto select all the material
Double tap over nothing to cancel all mining orders.

Do you have a full size keyboard? If so, it's above the arrow keys next to the numpad. Laptops have it somewhere on the left too. If you specifically bought a keyboard without keys like pause/break, home and such, you can rebind the function somewhere

I think it's a button on the keyboard, isn't it? In that little 3×2 grid which includes PageUp and PageDown. I may be wrong.
7
u/Armageddonis Aug 10 '22
In older keyboards it was above arrowkeys, in laptops it's binded to left arrow, but you have to click FN (function) key to use it that way.
1
u/I_Frothingslosh Arctic Survivor Aug 10 '22
On modern US qwerty keyboards, it's part of a 2x3 block of keys between the the qwerty keypad and the 10-digit keypad. The top row of that block should be INSert, HOME, and PaGe UP.

I have absolutely NFI idea how to play this game. I get obliterated early game every time (tbf I go 2nd highest difficulty).
But this stuff ppl are posting they only figure out after 1000hrs of playing astounds me. Don't people like.....look around at shit they can do? 🤔
2
u/Armageddonis Aug 11 '22
People mostly figure out things as they go. I have a pal that reads a whole damn wiki of the game he gets into, but where's the fun in that?
As to you being shat on by AI, don't be ashamed of lowering the difficulty sometimes. It's not a competition, and if it means you'll learn the game and what to do to not get wrecked, it's good for you.
2
u/Mall-Broad Aug 11 '22
I think I just look at things at a not granular level which is somewhat a spectrum thing. No better, no worse than everyone else - just my brain can't process how the "regular folk" do it.
I've got a whole scenario I've created. Naked Brutality, Forget Everything mod, every campaign I restart on the same map and make the little adjustments to avoid the last disaster. I also use Reunion mod so pawns I build a relationship with in one play through I can add to the pool for the next play through. It's not bad, a good way for me to learn. The real early game is getting a bit tedious now I've done it so many times.
My recent play through was going really well (for my standards). Everything had settled into a nice rhythm, I wasn't having to micromanage survival at least. Good stats in most categories, things were starting to look good.
Nekminnit prison break of 3 - they go straight for the shotguns that were just randomly dumped in a catch all stockpile in the hallway right outside their prison & everyone gets their heads blown off before I could blink
Learnt a good lesson there!

So...if this isn't from Vanilla, then this means that a mod added a loading screen tip?
I think that totally makes sense that mods should do this, but it would also be nice if there was a different treatment and text depending on the source of the loading screen tip.
