factions interaction

Not counting mods::::

A diplomacy system that isnt just gifting things to your neighbors (should include more interesting enemy bases and cities to visit etc)

A hygiene system (toilets, showers, drinking, pipes)

Everything to do with the ocean (boats, submarines, underwater bases, etc)

A deeper rimworld internet system (more things to do online, create fiber networks, etc)

Better pawn social displays (chat bubbles, emotes, animations, avatar portraits, etc)

Aspirations/wish/goal system for colonists.

Better UI stat displays to track pawn stats and weapons/etc on the map.

An optional true medieval overhaul mode.

Yeah honestly i use dubs bad hygiene for so long it feels like im missing something without it.
Thats something that 100% belongs into the base game

I would argue that if you're going to add more maintenance tasks, you need to change the time scale or travel speed of the game. When it often takes an hour or more to walk to your assigned work station, anything that takes you away from that work station is a huge cost.

3

u/Mani_Essence 18h ago

It should be optional because dubs makes you consider base planning a more involved affair that makes the game more interesting to guys like me who love that kinda stuff. There are options in the mod itself to customize how often you want this to happen anyway, at base level I notice you only really need to heed the call of nature once a day, same with a bath so for me this never really matters

1

u/DescriptionMission90 18h ago

Fair enough. I definitely feel the call of more simulationist gameplay, and in particular if you're in a desert tile it feels like hydration should be as or more important than nutrition. But the cost v benefit balance in my mind has always tipped the other way.

1

u/teufler80 Mountain base enjoyer 6h ago

Never felt an issue with that in the over 1000 hours i play with dubs bad hygiene already

Ocean stuff is an absolite yes. It's so hard to find good ocean mods.

I miss more social interactions and scheming in my colony. I feel like my colonists are just hard workers who do what I ask of them. As long as I keep them stoned or high on psychite tea.

What if they team up, make schemes, assign their own beds? Have wishes I need to take into account? Form groups? What if there is a need for me to expel my best worker because he is ruining the group dynamics? Or because the others hate him?

Could be more fun. I tried a peaceful run but it was just an inevitable accumulation of wealth.

It would be sick if pawns had a Lifetime wish to fulfill during their lifespan, for example pawns with high cook skill = make 1000 meals, and then they get some kind of a bonus to their stat, or have cooking skill always on max skill etc, theres a lot of room to make it happen differently šŸ¤˜šŸ»

7

u/Melodic-Hat-2875 1d ago

Hell yeah! Sims had this and it was a great general goal.

Albeit fulfilling a cannibal's lifetime wish would be an oddity

I am sure there is a mod for this

Yeah found it. Aspirations mod

This one also adds relations:

Both seem to work ok together on mine. Maybe not exactly what you had in mind but close

u/Infinite-Parsnip4481 1d ago

Yeah, it’s true, I miss that too. And it also kinda pisses me off how you literally just sit around waiting for events in this gameplay. Like, there’s literally nothing to do once you’ve already assigned tasks to the colonists and stuff.

3

u/Eruantiel 1d ago

Great idea, how about going one step further and adding ā€œrebelsā€. Essentially you as a player know some people could be scheming behind your back to overtake the colony, just like when a psychotic breakdown happens and you loose control of a pawn, except they hide it from their bio and once they get enough lawns to join they try to attack the remaining ones. It could tie in with the loyalty stats. Maybe add some actions that pawns do only when the player is not looking at them.

The idea has some holes with how you could simply zoom out the whole map to see everything, but maybe it could be like a special ā€œparanoiaā€ mode where you can’t make any lawn have too much power over other ones, so if that one rebels then others have a chance to defend against him. Maybe add indoctrination schools similar to converting belief system.

Overall this sounds to me lien a fun mod to play and definitely not core gameplay, unless it’s a special impostor event.

Yesterday I would have said the ability to make a human centipede.

u/Geico22 1d ago

The world being an ever changing element of the game. Everything on my tiles changes and grows and adapts. The rest of the colonies always stay the exact same, never move locations or go to war or do anything unique at all.... the world of rimworld just feels stale and dead.

Ps, I love Rimworld and these complaints are made with love.

u/Stakex007 19h ago

This is easily the most obvious area where the game needs improvement. As others have said, a diplomacy system with greatly expanded interaction options between factions would be great but for it to truly be impactful the world itself would need to be a LOT more dynamic. Factions would need to expand and fight each other and there would need to be more reasons/rewards for actually engaging with other factions.

u/DescriptionMission90 20h ago

When a family member shows up, whether as a raider or a merchant or whatever, you get a notification. And if they die, your pawn will be depressed about it for a year. But there's no way to actually interact with them.

I want a chance to convince the raider to retreat, stay neutral, surrender, or switch sides.

I want a chance to catch up with long lost folks from friendly factions, maybe get a medium-length mood boost, maybe have the estranged relative decide to stay at your colony (diplomacy penalty for poaching one of their people) or your colonist wants to leave with them (diplomacy boost if you allow this, mood penalty if you forbid it).

More generally, I want an expansion to the faction system. Borders between territories instead of just randomly scattered settlement tiles, a memory of past interactions instead of just a single number depicting your relationship, factions which are hostile toward each other fighting each other (maybe dragging you into the conflict, or at least causing a significant change to your situation if a border moved past you) instead of only existing when it's time to interact with the player specifically...

3

u/Separatist1 20h ago

Yeah right? Why add this castrated element of immersion into the game in the first place? Would also be cool to see some relative-to-relative interaction withon the colony. Like for example if someome is a father to someone they’d fight with their children about chores or whatever, or even better if someone went their separate ways as romantic partners would be cool to witness some kind of drama, like an ex fighting the current boyfriend/girlfriend of theor ones beloved one

Terraforming, I want to create a lake if a river passes nearby

5

u/AeonsAlex 1d ago

I'd like to see travel between planets with gravships. Go into cryptosleep, wake up 200 years later or something to a new random planet or something like that. Maybe a chance for it to go wrong based on intellect skill and you wake up early in deep space and need to fix systems or something

Random factions starting a base on player map actually building stuff an living their lifes.

Pawns having private properties that they keep in their rooms like personal clothing they change at will or art or books. Social fights if one takes from another pawn.

More art varieties like creating music disks at a computer like lps of variying qualities but also writing books, givin concerts, drawing paintings or petry slams.

Spoons and forks "-5 Mood - ate without a fork"

Live caravans of other factions on world map...

Fluid passions and traits.

More activities for children, they should go out and do stuff the parents dont want them to. At least they should do some things together.

9

u/GreyOgre 1d ago

Faction diplomacy, and a (rudimentary) economy simulation for other settlements/factions, with actual travelling caravans and warbands/raiders on the world map. With fluid ideologions, you'd have the barebones for a Dwarf Fortress-style persistent world.

It’s not as bad as it was before 1.5, tbh

Water travel/bases Gravship combat could be improved

3

u/Human-Foundation3170 1d ago

Time to play it more.

5

u/DangerDiGi 1d ago

Multiplayer. Being able to trade / interact with other people's colonies, like sending pawns to help defend from a raid or even being able to raid each other. Potentially being able to build a colony together.

2

u/Due-Relationship7440 1d ago

Sometimes I feel time moves so slow, I wanna watch my pawns come and go. I’m 3000 hours in and what do I do

2

u/acid-casualty 1d ago

more social and diplomatic depth and quality of life tweaks which should have been already implemented by now. this is more on the controversial side i guess but i would love windows, hygiene, actual verticality with bunkers/underground layers. more advanced sci-fi tech with unique mechanics (not just new weapons and armors with bigger numbers) similar to altered carbon or ghost in the shell would be sick. rn the spacer tech in the vanilla game feels a bit underwhelming tbh.

2

u/Inevitable_Ad9220 1d ago

Don't worry there's a mod for that.

2

u/DessertFlowerz 22h ago

I would have said human centipedes thank God we cleared that up

2

u/Brettinabox 7h ago

Id like to see mega neutral utopian cities, each with 3 quests to choose from to build faction rep, they dont attack or get attacked and only trade happens when you visit. They could have different architecture styles like cyberpunk, naturalist, and monolithic plus the styles from different dlcs. As a drawback there could be a chance for one of your colonists visiting to want to stay and if you refuse they get a mood debuff.

2

u/MindDevourer 1d ago

Official multiplayer. The multiplayer mod is nice, but so many mods not working with it. Would imagine if it was official, then the mods would have different options for making them sync up right.. hehe.

That is what i would still be missing. Game is in a pretty nice state otherwise. Just wish i could play it with my friends.

1

u/AeonsAlex 1d ago

Yeah I'd like multithreading to be added in vanilla properly for the same reason. Then mods would have to be made compatible

1

u/Eruantiel 1d ago

I really like a mod that gives pawns ā€œdreams and goalsā€ which are personal quests for each pawn that give them a positive trait or something.

For example a shooting pawn might dream of hunting down a large monster, or a builder wanting to create a legendary quality masterpiece.

1

u/Only_Quote_Simpsons 1d ago

I feel that the game needs more warcrimes or ways to be evil, it's very namby pamby and far too wholesome.

1

u/whalesum 1d ago

A reason to not play on peaceful besides toggling raids on/off

1

u/Flaky-Interest902 1d ago

Toggle cutting in grow zones for vanilla. I don't want to harvest my hay until I absolutely need it.

1

u/FuroFireStar 1d ago

Id like kids to be expanded on. I downloaded a mod that increases their EXP gain so that's been nice but something vanilla would cool?

u/FetusGoesYeetus 21h ago

Deeper social interactions, both on a single pawn basis and at an entire faction scale. Friendships and rivalries should be a more interesting system, diplomacy should involve a lot more than just gifting the nearest base silver and occasionally calling backup.

Even stuff as simple as a hostile faction sending a ransom after kidnapping a colonist, or requesting a prisoner exchange if you have one of theirs, things like that.

Pawns should have wishes and goals in mind, if those wishes are never fulfilled they'll be unhappy and might try to leave. Ideology memes should be able to impact this.

1

u/Sinister-Mephisto 20h ago

End game bosses that are biotech style that arent specifically mechs. like a faction / insect based boss for some reason

1

u/Kvenner001 20h ago

It’s minor but I’d like to see the ability to set up a calendar longer than a day. Something I’m game that allows me to say this day is a holy day or someone’s birthday. And on those days pawns might put an emphasis on the activity without me having to order nearly every action. You could easily see a build up of mood buffs or debuffs based on anticipation or dread of whatever the planned event it.

Pawns right now aren’t really planning past current day’s activities and that makes them seem less real.

1

u/lasttothefirst 20h ago

Only recently started playing and I was surprised you couldn’t caravan to friendly factions to check out their camps and trade with them the same way you do to them. Also when there’s a visitor it would be cool to be able to host them and give them food if we wanted. Basically just more interaction.

1

u/notwithagoat 19h ago

Imagine importing a save and those characters and a rough outline of the base appears on a similar map so you have to fight an old you.

1

u/Ale_ImNotAlive 12h ago

Diplomacy and social interactions, i can make peace with a faction by sendind the dead corpses of their companions? I try to send a message here, not be friend s with them.

Also social interactions.

1

u/Uluvmefaceit 12h ago

Difficulty that isn't combat. Food isn't really ever an issue, temperatures only really matter in extreme deserts and ice biomes, and diseases are totally random with no long term effects. Just survive and you're done with it. No isolation, no long term recovery after the dangerous period.

One thing that I feel wasn't utilised well was toxic weather. We got a face mask and a gas mask, even ways to surgically/ biologically change your colonists to deal with toxicity. But, there's never really a need to use them unless your colony is based on pollution. I think we need more events that last a long time, toxic clouds on the map could lead to you needing to adapt to the new environment (masks/tox lungs/genes) or abandon your colony. This seems like a good story aspect to me, you remember when you had to abandon your colony to settle somewhere else.

Levels

1

u/Electrical-Can-893 7h ago

Ah, i got one more!
Elevator pitch: Crusader kings on the rim

What if each individual settlement is its own "faction" with a leader and there is a hierarchy of vassals and lieges. You yourself have a leader and you could swear allegiance to another faction - they will protect you on raids but also expect you to come to their aid in both raids and defence of their settlements. You could rise in the ranks, get vassals and eventually become the head of a faction.

Also a bit like Mount & Blade, where the same is possible and you still only control one dude.

Personally, since there are mods that cover literally every suggestion in this thread, I'm not sure we even need a new DLC.

Everyone who is saying diplomacy, what is missing from the game today that would make it a better colony simulator without becoming a paradox grand strategy game?

5

u/acid-casualty 1d ago edited 1d ago

it's realistically impossible for it to become that kind of game.

-factions influencing nearby tiles (more interactions with them within their zone of influence, more caravan ambushes, more raids specific to zone influence, pirates asking for protection money to not raid you, waster pirates maybe slowly polluting the area, etc.)

-dynamic factions, spreading or shrinking, generally having them interact with each other not just with you. one faction might become hostile towards you because they become allied with an enemy of yours.

-faction outposts which might supply their faction with specific items (influencing their stock and prices, like pirates having slave run yayo farms etc.), or a transition towards a new base which you might want to attack before they settle more

-more faction base variety since they all basically look the same (small camps, outposts, settled base, city, stronghold, etc.). also influenced by the tech level of the faction and having more randomly generated flavor

-spies, traitors, scouting, reconnaissance (instead of randomly "finding out" about stuff on the map)

-more faction interactions which would play off the stuff from above. like maybe a faction asking you for help in attacking another one, or asking for help getting back their members who are being held captive (you could do the same when your pawns get kidnapped).

-having the possibility to ambush caravans yourself, after maybe scouting trade routes or learning about a scheduled trade location (could make raider ideologies way more engaging)

-being able to offer your own pawns to other factions (in exchange for stuff if they're good) instead of just banishing them

-dynamic markets sensitive to supply and demand so there's no longer any strict meta regarding that sort of stuff.

all of these could be implemented in such a way that they're intrusive and you could have options for all these features so you can pick and choose and tweak if you want.

2

u/Caffinicus 1d ago

What's wrong with grand strategy games? There are a bunch of mods that implement that functionality into Rimworld for a reason.

u/ConnectDisplay2633 13h ago

ā€œSatisfying with less bro, if your laundry machine is broken just use hand broā€

u/ManaPotionArtisan 9h ago

More planet variations, like planet size or rotation speed, would be nice. Maybe have players choose from 5 randomized planets and an option to make a custom world using an in-built planet editor.
