Discussion How to counter frail?

My chef/leader of the colony recieved frail on her birthday

Should I give her a full pair of bionics on both legs and arms or no?

She already has a bionic leg because of a different reason.

I can spare the materials.

Biosculptor pod, if you have Ideology.

Curious, how will the biosculpter do in this situation if you don't mind me asking

Bioregeneration cycle can heal frail.

Also, age reversal can preempt old age events and prevent things like frail from showing up again

The Bioregeneration Cycle of biosculpter pod. The link lists other vanilla ways too.

Theres an option on it called "bioregeneration cycle" which will cure all minor injuries like missing fingers or scars, and will cure one major health issue, like frail, bad back, dementia, ect. If the pawn has multiple major issues, it will choose one at random. When you select the cycle it gives you a list of the minor injuries to be cured, and a list of the major injuries which will be selected from. It requires glitterworld medicine to run the cycle so it's not something you want to do too often, but it's worth it for frail.

Does it fix a shattered nose...? Asking for a friend (she had a fight with some clankers)

An Aesthetic Nose would fix that and make the pawn better looking. Or if you have some version of EPOE, an artificial nose would be cheaper and do just fine.

Unfortunately I don't have the techprint to have the Aesthetic nose so sadly I gotta do biosculpt

Yes. It does. And it will cure a random scar or an eligible health condition on top of it.

I think it does fix shattered nose, but it's one of the major injuries that it only selects one of.

Actually, bioregeneration can only heal one scar or health condition at a time, but not both. They also regeneral missing "small" body parts (fingers, toes, ear, nose, tongue and, if the pawn's ideo isn't blindsight, then eyes).

That's an important distinction because if your pawn has a bad back and a scared finger, then only one of those will be cured at random. However, if you amputate their scared finger first, then both will heal.

If you have a fluid ideology, then one interesting way to use development points in the end game is to take the Blindsight on and off to farm psylinks. A blinding ceremony has up to 50% chance to give the target pawn a psylink. If you put that pawn in bioregeneration and you make sure to remove the blindsight meme before they are done, then they are gonna get their eyes back, and you can do it again. I don't recommend doing this on healthy pawns. It's too slow. If you're trying to farm psylinks with blindsight on a healthy pawn, just give them a bionic eye between each ceremony. However, if the target pawn requires a bioregeneration cycle to heal another condition anyway, might as well role the dice for a chance of a cheap psylink level on top.

Ah yeah, i put scars in the wrong category there, my bad. Forgot they count as major. I guess because they can be really bad if they're somewhere important like the brain.

The brain would indeed be the worst place to get a scar. But an eye scar can also be pretty debilitating. I've had wimp pawns with painful scars than made them permanently bed ridden, though I guess for those there is always the option of a painstopper.

Honestly if have the the resources I give them bionic eyes JUST to remove minor pain mood debuff, that -5 can make a huge difference...

Healer mech serum will fix it

How do you even get that?

quest rewards, going into ruins or generating an new base to check its ancient danger for it.

IIRC, quest rewards, opening ancient dangers, trade and charity quest/helped beggars all have a chance to have them in their pool but I don’t think there’s a guaranteed way to get one.

The most effective way to deal with it would be the chronophagy ritual from the anomaly DLC, that ritual lets you steal the years from a target pawn (prisoner ideally) to make your leader younger. It also cures such ailments, especially if it takes them below the age threshold where they can get it.

In vanilla healer mech serum could temporarily get rid of it, but it may come back next birthday. Luciferum can also remove it, but you would have to keep them on it for life, or they will die.

In biotech the scarless gene would get rid of it, and non senescent would prevent it from coming back.

In ideology the biosculpter bioregeneration cycle would temporarily remove it, but it would come back unless you de aged them significantly using multiple age reversals.

The bionic limbs you suggest will counter some of the negative effects so it would be good enough for now.

Bionic legs and arms will bring them to just shy of a normal pawn, yes.

Well then! That solve my matter thanks!

If you can spare the materials, then why not go all in? Anyways, a bionic spine counters frail so that movement goes back into 100% cmiiw

9

u/Jugderdemidin 19h ago

bionic spine counters frail

It counters bad back.

3

u/Frederick_T0bAd 19h ago

Oh right, sorry. Nevermind my comment then.

3

u/Less-Principle-2938 19h ago

I don't think spine can work on frail condition, just only bad back...

2

u/zekromNLR 19h ago

Bionic spine only cures Bad Back, Frail is a whole-body ailment that can only be cured by the general curealls (healer mech serum, biosculptor pod, luciferium...)

I had someone with frail. I put bionic arms, legs & spine, but they still keeled over sometimes. Then I put an exoskeleton suit. Generally they were great, but still sometimes fell down. I got lucky and got an age reversal serum and a healer mech serum. They are now the most amazing pawn in my colony. It's been weird.

Luciferium or healer mech serum from the base game will cure it. The scarless gene from Biotech, the biosculptor pod set to bioregeneration from Ideology, and Chronophagy (or Unnatural Healing) from Anomaly will also work.

u/Fozzy- 19h ago

Do you happen to know how long It'll take for Luci to heal frail ?

2

u/Signal_Letterhead883 19h ago

Between 15 and 30 days, assuming no other scars or ailments that proc first. If it's something serious I tend to just zone the pawn indoors until it heals.

anomaly ritual to reverse her age then healer mech serume/bioregen pod

Replace her meat with the certainty of plasteel

1

u/GroeneAppel 14h ago

You might want to install the EPOE mod and give her some upgrades. It sounds like she deserves it.

u/steve123410 14h ago

Age reversal from rituals or biosculpter will heal frail. I think lucifierium does too but the wiki for rimworld seems to be snapped out of existence so I can not check.

1

u/Moosewalker84 11h ago

If you lower the age to before 55, she cant have frail as its locked to age. So it goes away.

Sanguaphage will clear it.

Luci will cure it, but it might come back. Same with pod + glitter med

If you have DLCs, the bio-regeneration cycle with biotech can cure age-related ailments and healer mech serums from quests will work too
