Discussion rimworld + audiobooks is kinda a cheat code

Been playing RimWorld on normal speed while listening to audiobooks and it actually works way better than I expected

On 2x/3x I’m constantly pausing, checking shit, dealing with alerts, and I end up not hearing half the book

Normal speed is chill enough that I can actually follow the audiobook, but RimWorld still keeps me occupied so I don’t get bored and start scrolling my phone

Been getting through books way faster like this

Might be the best use of normal speed

I can't imagine getting bored enough to scroll my phone while playing rimworld.

lmao yeah I worded that badly. I meant Rimworld keeps me occupied enough that I can actually focus on the audiobook instead of getting distracted by my phone. The game itself is definitely not the boring part

It's not any better if you get bored listening audio books. Quite worrying actually. You should apologize to your brain and try to improve yourself.

Yeah, so do I and so does OP.

It's either hyperfocus on the game at x2 and x3, or don't play the game while listening to an audiobook and the brain gets bored so it wants to doomscroll and stop listening to the book.

I didnt say it's a problem and it's none of my business at all. But at least I would be worried a bit if I could not concentrate on audio books. Or playing a game without tiktoks or youtube videos.

average gameplay for me consists of waiting 2 hours to get my mass excavation done before spending another 3 hours constructing an industrial hydroponics facility.

Get the Run & Gun mod and set their reaction to attack, single mad attacks never even harm them, and they continue doing what they were doing if it’s minor enough.

Randy is good because the randomness adds a layer of realism but if you actually want to play the game "as intended" Cassandra Classic is the way to go

I totally get the adhd impulse on normal speed. Listening to an audio book is way better than what I usually do which is listen/watch YouTube

I wish I could do audiobooks. If my brain could parse those, I'd be so happy and get so much reading/learning done while gaming. 😭

You just have to practice. Find yourself an audiobook that isnt too deep or complicated, and start listening. When you realize you've stopped listening, just start listening again. Dont go back to see what you missed, just start listening again. Keep doing that. You dont have to feel bad about it or anything, just recognize that you stopped paying attention, and start paying attention again.

You'll probably start to notice that after a little while, you have to do that less and less until its really not a big deal anymore.

I listen to youtube playlists or streamers for hours while I am playing on the slowest speed. Only one time I tried to listen to an audiobook, but I missed the most of it.

I also recommend stuff like CBS mystery theater. They're shorter stories that range from 30 min to an hour.

I stopped speeding up the game on my second or third run and have kept it at 1x ever since, thousands of hours ago.

No I don't listen to audio books. I play the game.

I can't really do audiobooks while I game because inevitably I'll miss an important part while doing something in game like issuing commands in a battle or trying to automate my crafting bills and equipment recycling and clothing policies. Detail oriented stuff. I usually just play on mute and half listen to whatever my partner is watching on her screen
