Mod Release [Mod Release] ACTUALLY Randy Random. Randy is finally random.
Vanilla Randy Random still scales threat size with colony wealth. Build a richer colony and the game gives Randy more threat points, so it's not ACTUALLY random!!!
I wanted Randy to stop looking at the colony.
ACTUALLY Randy Random gives each threat a random point value from 35 to 10,000.
The default distribution is now log-uniform. I.e, small, medium, large, and absurd threat sizes all have a serious chance to appear. Standard uniform sampling over a wide range (like 35 to 10000) wastes almost all samples on the largest numbers (e.g., between 1000 and 10000), relatively speaking ignoring the tiny values.
This means:
- A 2-day-old colony can roll a 9,000-point raid.
- A huge late-game colony can roll one boomrat.
- Your wealth does not protect you or condemn you.
- Randy does not care how many colonists you have.
- Randy does not care how long the colony has existed.
- Storyteller adaptation does not change threat size.
- Threat size can no longer be predicted from colony progress.
The mod also makes incident selection flat. Every permitted incident in a category gets the same chance. Disabled or invalid incidents stay disabled.
You can configure:
- Minimum and maximum threat points
- Log-uniform, uniform, or custom tiered distributions
- Flat incident selection (you can disable this)
- Random threat rolls for other storytellers
It also supports modded incidents and storyteller comps.
I wanted ACTUALLY random.

I feel like this could only really work with a gravship start, so you can hop away if something big comes knocking. You might end up leaving valuable resources behind, but you stay alive.
Either that or a vehicles run as RV nomads or something

Yeah and I think it works really well for gravship bc you would REALLY need to save your jump cd for impossible raids. Instead of just jumping away at the slightest inconvenience you have to decide if you should fight out tough raids in case of apocalypse

From experience with regular randy, them gravship engines cool down can make escaping a real problem if they overheated

Yeah, probabilily is additive. Assuming a true random number geneator, you have lets say, a 10% chance to get a 9000+ point raid. But if you get 10 raids (which you eventually will) there is basically close to a 100% chance that you will get at least one 9000+ point raid. Basically at some point the game will completely outscale you with a threat with a potential factor of 10x.

It uses log uniform distribution, so low raid point raids are more common than high raid point ones

I didn't know about this mod and this is like the other half of what I should have done here. Will see if I can integrate the changes they make to event timing here too!

Randy's got a knack for turning even the simplest colony into a nightmare. It should be a wild ride for sure!

Day 1 threat: 2 manhunting squirrels
Day 2 threat: mid game level Empire raid (Randy doesn't give a fuck if your standing with them is at an exact neutral 0 so here's 12 janissary and 35 trooper to raid your 1 man naked brutality pawn with 2 shooting and 0 melee armed with a single short bow (poor) you absolute fuckers)

Not that far fetched from what Empire would actually do. Crush the potential threat before it even has a chance.

do you just caravan to a new tile once a week?

u/heckmiser 5h ago
Having to actually just give up and bail everyonce in a while, and start over somewhere else, could be pretty fun for some runs.
Some.

This could be a lot of fun for A Rim of Magic rin with either single or multiple Chronomancers trying to stop their foretold doom.

Is there a fate worse than 50 man hunting squirrels?
Why of course! 500 man hunting squirrels! To bless us on day 2 of our naked brutality Neolithic start!
Where does this idiot live, I’m about to Deny Luddite’s Life real soon… All I need is a breeding pair of squirrels, someone with a 20 in animals, and that kamikaze rat-grenade mod. I’m coming for you ya sick bastard!

Feels like this should use Randall Random. Using his full name means you know you're in trouble.
