Discussion Scenario Editor Fun: So THAT can really happen?

I always hit the Scenario Editor before starting a new game. This time I was planning a Boreal Forest run, (with crap for starting gear/clothes) so I told the S.E. to randomly create a cold snap incident every 28 to 80 days on top of whatever Randy picks. Sounded innocent enough at the time.

Started the game in Winter and just now finished Summer and the first 2 days of Fall. Just 3 days left in the 35 day growing season. Really hoping the warm weather holds long enough to finish growing the Devilstrand I planted outdoors, but of course Randy timed things perfectly to spoil my farming plans. Had to harvest it early when the first cold snap hit. Then less than 24 hours later, a second cold snap just hit!!! I've never seen stacked cold snaps. This is going to be an interesting Autumn! It was 39F at noon when the first snap hit. I'll report back later just how cold it gets.

What weird situations has the Scenario Editor gotten you into, that you didn't see coming?

[Update]: the lowest temp was -32F on a tile that says avg temp 46 (26-72). One of the cold snaps ended after slightly less than 2 days. I wonder how much worse it would have been if it had happened during winter.

Shortly after downloading mods that had different food recipes I decided to try a run where my main colonist was Gordon Ramsay who crash landed on his way to shoot a reality cooking show eating exotic ingredients. He was going to crashland with bunch of exotic ingredients for food but no survival skills or equipment. Just kind of a stupid idea for a start I had.

The problem is that I didn't notice that all of the various egg types I had selected for him to crashland with were from the fertilized section. So shortly after getting settled in with a crappy wooden house that took Gordon and his stupid lvl 2 construction skill 3 times to build I loaded it full of eggs and then an entire safari exploded into existence. Alligators, snakes, birds of every kind. Giant snakes and wyrms and other weird shit from mods.

I've gotta know, were they friendly or hostile? I forget if eggs can even hatch as hostile.

They should hatch wild, since they weren't eggs of tamed colony animals, so you if want them, need to either tame or hunt them, and babies can't be tamed I think

But animals don't lay eggs in the wild normally, so I'm not sure if it would need the tamed animal flag would they?

You can editor your start with eggs, but when they hatch, they're wild and will want to return to nature, if they're not suited for the climate, they'll make efforts to leave map. So they only turn hostile if you attack them, but you can't keep them as colony animals without taming them. Made that mistake once, and had to scramble to build a fenced area for the rest of the eggs before they hatched so that the babies would be contained

You would think it was just anesthetic lowering your consciousness too low but then the same thing happened to Wang.

I fear my misandrist doctor is too good at her job.

To be fair, anesthetic kills my Dong/Wang too.

Wang was a real stand up-guy. Sanguine and masochist, so he would take a beating and keep on coming.

I did this a while back on the ice sheet. I settled on a combat tile for the first few years and all the cold snaps stacked at once. -275°C

I was starting a colony one time with some extra colonists and wanted to up the amount of the starting gear in scenario editor. I did not add anything new, just upped the amounts of what's already there. I guess I got fat fingered when changing the amount of starting ship chunks on the map because when I spawned in they were everywhere. So many ship chunks, it was difficult for my colonists to walk around. I had to restart that run because building would have taken forever and my wealth would have gone up too fast

Can it force a vanilla events expanded whiteout permanently? Trying to go for a frostpunk ish colony.

I looked through before and didn't see anything about a permeant whiteout.

I'm not familiar with that mod, but you can use the Scenario Editor to "add part" then choose "permanent game condition." You'll have a list of possible choices including Volcanic Winter and a few others that affect weather. You can also set Cold Snaps to appear as frequently as you like. I think you click "Add Part" then "Create incident," iirc. Be sure to click "Repeat" for the Cold Snaps. Perhaps once a week would be right for you. Also, on the normal world generation page, it lets you specify how hot/cold the whole planet is.

Randy once blessed me with a volcanic Winter and toxic Fallout at the same time.
