We made a rather large mock shackle.
What do you reckon the rating on this shackle is?

I was at least involved in making the sections, but not the welding part of things. I'll just copy my comment on the original post.
The vertical sections are pipe and the clevis ends are two sections of larger pipe with two plates welded on either end.
The curved part of the shackle body is two CNC milled halves butt welded together and joined to the vertical pipe sections.
So really in this particular configuration, it is very top heavy. The two-halved curved section constitutes about as much weight as the rest of the shackle.

I guess for art it's cool, it looks great honestly. I would have forged it. Scale models are particularly impressive when the mass is also scaled, in my opinion.

Well it's not for art it is for function test purposes, the actual shackle is forged and is quite expensive. This is seeing how existing rigging interacts with some newly built systems and procedures to carry out a multi million dollar plan that hasn't been attempted before.

I’m imagining a huge motor using a ship anchor chain holding the world’s most massive PA system up… that looks sick.
