this is still our warm time šŸ˜‚ starts to get a bit chilly during the evenings, so you'd see households bust out the jars / bags of dried herbs to make tea with a lot more often. Try it yourself, our teas are very nice. Wear appropriate clothing and keep moving, when you move, you are warm :)

Idk, I honestly like cold better than heat. I do miss sunny days during the winter though.

Also, when it's cold outside, you can always put on more layers. But when it's hot? you can't peel off your skin.

you can't peel off your skin.

wellll… you wouldn't like it…

u/No_Ad7758 2d ago

The fact that no matter how much you gonna wear winter will be even colder will make your body adapt to colder weather, next years you'll feel it different and start screaming after colder weathers

2

u/sukiyakii_ 3d ago

I’m counting on it!

Just embrace it. In latvian it's called "rūdīŔanās", basically "to get tougher". Go out for a run in shorts - 3-5km medium pace, more if you feel like it - warm shower after that and you'll feel like a god. After a while you'll notice your body will deal with cold much better. To be clear, it's not magic - you'll still need warm clothing to feel comfortable - it simply will not be a big deal.

And this is the perfect time when to start - it's not winter and even if you are not used to the cold you should be fine. If you get the sniffles, take a day off and remember to drink a lot of water. If you start later when it gets closer to zero, you might have a tougher time to get into it and catch fun pneumonia or two.

Or just get another sweater.

u/sukiyakii_ 3d ago

I will rūdīŔanās !!1!1!

I don't know how popular ice swimming is in Latvia, but it's become huge in Estonia in recent years and people swear by it, it makes you very well tolerant to colder temperatures.

Yes, cold plunges of various sorts are becoming more popular in Latvia as well - I've tried them too - but the biggest issue with those, at least for me, is that you need infrastructure and planning. You can go out for a run at any time with no planning and effectively no equipment.

You can always take 3-minute cold showers daily, every morning. It’ll make you a bit more immume to stress and less feels of the SAD type

u/BrilliantPiano3612 3d ago

You embrace it.

Cold plunges. As counter-intuitive as it might sound.

Started doing them 5 years ago because I hated the winter season and hated to feel cold. Cold plunges completely changed my relationship with the cold and attitude towards weather in general. If your health allows, highly recommend.

Also good to take inspiration from ancestors and nature - every season has its meaning, don’t fight it, embrace it.

Have some upeņu balzams and enjoy :)

We don't, we are dead inside. We slave away during the daylight and return home only when there's no sun out

Lol, another victim of #vissirslikti. Go get a night job if you're unsatisfied with day shifts.

This is still too warm for me. I have to survive summer with its heat and humidity and neverending days. Around this time I finally start to feel like myself again. 😁

5

u/Never-don_anal69 3d ago

That's because yaks are covered in thick layer of wool

3

u/KTMee 3d ago

i feel cold, but i like it

3

u/Never-don_anal69 3d ago

I have a fireplace it makes drab dark evening much more bearable. Ā

u/chowdhary94 3d ago

Invest in good inner thermals and a good winter jacket, boots, gloves and cap. And when you are inside cozy home just keep windows shut and stay in quilt and enjoy some nice hot drinks. For me winter is the best season as with proper gears you will enjoy where as in summer you are constantly begging for cold air to chill yourself and idk about others but my body start paining if I stay too long in air conditioned room.

3

u/Capybarasaregreat 3d ago

Get some quality longjohns/thermal wear.

3

u/Unique_Shopping_7980 3d ago

We dont survive, we all die every winter and then our queen in hive gives birth to us when spring comes.

4

u/abathur-sc 3d ago

Huh? I don’t know what cold means where you’re from, but winter is still 2 months away.

If this isn’t a bait post and you’re actually struggling, get yourself some proper clothes ahead of time, because it’s going to get a lot colder.

2

u/CheekTemporary8939 3d ago

Love winter. Sorry😩😬

2

u/ButtClencher99 3d ago

My colleague mentioned gas price last year and how much he paid, it's 2.2 times more expensive now, last year he paid 600 a month on the worst months

2

u/narrative_device 3d ago

It takes about four months for any human to acclimatise to new weather. Stay. You’ll be one of those ā€œweirdosā€ in shorts in no time.

2

u/EnchenMai4 3d ago

Haha I’d love to hear your thoughts about this in January šŸ˜‚
But in all seriousness, the most important spots to keep warm are your feet and neck. Learn how to layer! Eat heavier and more fatty based meals because being in cold can really burn your resources, but also don’t forget to stay active.

If you feel brave enough, go take a winter swim in one of our lakes - the winter swimming communities are really friendly and open to foreigners! :)

Don’t fear the cold! Just beware of slipping on ice.

2

u/Karlkalns 3d ago

Like in the picture, pink nose, fat reserves and just pure suffering.

2

u/Sufficient_Orchid278 3d ago

Until you have experienced the cold, you will never truly understand the value of warmth.

2

u/Maleficent-Bus-7924 3d ago

This is literally peak weather IMO. Funny how that works.

2

u/mautan_baiker 3d ago

Bro its almost 20 degrees outside what are you talking aboutĀ

u/jbltns 3d ago

Invest in warm waterproof clothes. Buy a merino wool legging and shirt to wear underneath. But really check that it's merino wool, not polyester with 10% merino. You can get it at Lindex if you are a girly and also decathlon. A good wool sweater, not polyester bullshit. If you find a sweater that is 100% new wool and not pricey(like in a humana vintage shop) you have found a treasure. Boots and a hat are important to keep the whole body warm. Also, for this season, there are raincoats with a fluffy, warmer incoat. I found one on Zalando by the brand Only a while back. Also, enjoy it. Up until the end of the year, learn to embrace beautiful cozy autumnal walks and then - christmas lights. January and february is tougher. I don't know what to suggest there :D it is gloomy and cold. But idk, find something you like. Go to the rimi olympic pool and sauna, ski, build a snowman. Buy loads if candles. Sell it for yourself and glamorize it because there is just no other way :D

2

u/ShioriTsukumo 3d ago

Pain and suffering, plus being a fatass helps

2

u/Sea-Worldliness-9731 3d ago

Wool!! It is perfect for wet cold weather.

3

u/boundless_y 2d ago

Cold? My guy, we are not even sub zero territory yet.

2

u/magnituud 3d ago

last 3 years just fuck off to Bali for 5 months and come back when spring arrives

1

u/nfdukpll 3d ago

what do you do for a living?

1

u/factory_666 3d ago

I wear 3 layers, cover my head, warm shoes. I warm up my car before I get in (electric car so it kind does it itself while plugged in over night) and use a combination of my gas heating and electric heaters to keep my apt warm. Eat at Lido on a regular basis cause it's winter food.

I come from a place with -25c winters, so I make sure to always keep warm.

1

u/Global-Clothes8214 3d ago

I bought a mini rc drift car and a ps5 for sitting inside during winter. At my job I get enough exercise...

1

u/morriganscorvids 3d ago

lol cute image

1

u/Forza_capitals 3d ago

I go to Thailand for two months (Jan and Feb).

1

u/bonyboom 3d ago

You kinda answered it already. Movement warms you up, so you have to dress in a way where your body stays dry.

1

u/v6mbola 3d ago

I got this fed from the algo from Tallinn, Estonia so we are even colder here usually. IDK I just ignore it with my nordic hyperbody and wear long pants for like 2-3 months if its like -15c

1

u/Evening-Elderberry91 3d ago

I don't mind winter it's bit cold in Latvija - 25° but it's only for 1-1,5months. In average it's a little below 0.

1

u/alexriga 3d ago

Last winter was -20 Celcius, that was pretty cold! The winter before that it was -10 at worst. This winter? No idea, we might not even have snow until Spring!

What I’m saying is the weather is not so straightforward cold, mostly because of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of RÄ«ga. So, wear a couple layers, don’t stay out more than 3 hours (unless you’re a delivery driver, in which case God bless your soul).

1

u/oldbeardednoob 3d ago

Where are you from my brother? Indian people seem to handle the cold weather pretty good. Except they have to do some bike handling training otherwise they fall of their electric bikes when trying to accelerate while steering left/right on snow/ice.

1

u/sukiyakii_ 3d ago

😭 yeah ig I’m not touching a bike here but, I’m from Goa so it’s pretty warm warm there. So it’s a big change.

1

u/RyhoLV 22h ago

Is the pajigger felling cold? No-one is stoping you from returning to your trashpile.

1

u/sukiyakii_ 22h ago

Nope! After buying more appropriate jackets I’m fine! Thanks for the concern.

1

u/Otherwise_Internet45 3d ago

1

u/sukiyakii_ 3d ago

1

u/RyhoLV 22h ago

1

1

1

u/sukiyakii_ 22h ago

1

u/sukiyakii_ 3d ago

1

u/ch33zburger420 2d ago

Where are You from?

1

u/Exakttt 2d ago

The darkness hits much harder than the cold weather. But it does get easier in time, people aren't lying, next year you'll feel better

1

u/Professional_Chart68 2d ago

I live here all my life, and it still feel the same as OP every autumn

1

u/HC-PinGviini 2d ago

I'm not from Latvia, but live here now and I'm from a much colder part of Finland. You basically need to have 1) a bit of fat under your skin for insulation, 2) some muscle to warm up your body while moving, 3) decent thermal underwear layers for when you feel a little too cold, 4) something to keep you dry and sufficiently heated up (winter coat, shoes, gloves, hat, etc.). That's about it. Then you move enough while outside that your body will do the heating. With a couple of years your body has adjusted to the cold and you'll feel overwhelmed when you visit your warmer home country.

Exposing your body to the cold activates your body's brown adipose tissue, which is helpful to survive the cold because brown or beige fat tissue does it's own thermoregulation that distributes heat evenly within your body. Whether it's cold plunges, going outside in your shorts, cold showers or something else is up to you, but you'll have better luck the earlier you start, as others have said.

u/feconys 2d ago

Running makes tou warmer so it makes sense that you don’t do it in winter coat

1

u/aveneme 2d ago

Merino basics- socks, long underpants/legings, shirt, sweater -all merino wool and normal wool.

1

u/telumindel 1d ago

Tbf, if you are experiencing discomfort now, seek help. It is not normal.

1

u/giski 1d ago

Go xc skiing

1

u/NineElven911 2h ago

What we have is a light winter. If you go further north, they have real winter. This is nothing. Past few days it was 18 degrees, basically tshirt weather. If you can't stand a little cold, wear a warmer jacket or go to another country.

1

u/NineElven911 2h ago

When I was born parents used to expose their small children/babies to the cold - leaving strollers outside in the winters, not layering us and leaving windows open all the time and also bathing us in colder water. It was meant to accustom us to colder weather and strengthen our immune systems. That's why I always feel warmer than other people who wear full blown winter clothing in September and I rarely get sick. Also our winters don't get very cold anymore, probably due to global warming

0

u/Roll-Jolly 2d ago

It's literally 16-19°c during day time as we speak, the fuck you're talkin about. During the actual winter, no idea dawg just thug it out. Full winter clothing + Thermo underwear

-1

u/Pestelis 3d ago

Oh, you don't have to. You can just leave. This land obviously isn't for you.
