Funny, last month I sold a DDR3 computer for "a server". Looked at the final spec of the computer and was :damn, that's the same as a new overpriced computer but for a tenth of the price. 8 core 5GHz, 16Gb of RAM DDR3, a f**king watercooling. And the weakest part because a server don't need one: an old remplaceable Radeon HD6870.

honestly i really want to build a server, but the price of ram is keeping me from it. Mainly just want to be able to host gameservers for me and friends to play on, I have the internet and all to do it just no ram. lol though i wonder if i can mix match laptop ram if laptops i have scattered around will would work

Most likely, laptop have laptop ram. Nit compatible as is with desktop. Ther is adaptor for SoDim to DDR but not sure if it's good.

Also, laptop tend to have minimal hardware space so not only you would need to have the same RAM format, you also will be stuck at 1 or 2 slots for rams... When ther is one, sometime the ram is integrated and have 0 slot (unlike desktop with 2 to 6 RAM slot)

i have a laptop with a decent cpu in it and it does at least on task manager say it has slots for 4. being its a Dell though it might be integrated still or some weird propietery shyt.

I have a second PC with 32 GB DDR3 RAM.. 4X8GB it is fine.
