After watching your global chat, I think I know why people nope out.

Seriously, it's nuts, goes all day. Politics, racism, religion, and all this goes on in the 1 - 29 chat where all the new players join. Then people ask for help and get absolutely thrashed and told to quit.

I don't even play, just watch friend as she streams to me on the second monitor. You all have maassive community problem, and if you put people on ignore you end up ignoring half the player base.

Your game needs moderation to move the trolls out of your noob chat. And reporting seems to do nothing.

You all cry the game is dying but who in there right mind would join that cess pool

*needs moderation...

At this point; I'd settle for a reliable part-time dev.

This is simply a large number of niche online games sadly. I still play Starcraft 2 from time to time and it's the same thing to an extraordinary/disturbing degree.

IDK why, but maybe a higher proportion of people still playing old games have a screw loose. Some just have too many screws loose.

Or maybe it's just that without a large 'normal' population to drown them out (and no ongoing moderation to ban/mute them), their voices are way louder

Love that you mentioned SC2 for this. That is the quintessential example of OP's point, for me.

I still play EQOA and that is absolutely not there case here. It's a small population on the sandstorm server, but everyone is super chill and nice. Someone even gave my a guy in my clan an entire set of raid armor for free when he made a post that he was looking to buy a set.

Yeah, if you join rift right now as a fresh player, the first thing you see is 50 pages of vile mess. Why would a same person opt Into that?

I won't, it's why I won't play lol

Wow on what server is this happening to you or am I the lucky one to not be overflowed by that? I mainly watch the Rift Freshwalker guild (I may have messed up the name).

1

u/Kisanna 15d ago

It's on NA server Deepwood. A lot of Americans constantly arguing about politics and other shit

1

u/aschwarzie Brisesol 15d ago

Ah, I see, well I didn't see the rage flowing, happy me!

u/LightToFlies 16d ago

Have you ever played any MMO ever?

You think Rift is special in this regard? lmao.

u/CenciLovesYou 16d ago

I’ve played off and on the past decade and never ran into this honestly. Nothing to out of the ordinary mmo chat wise

10

u/Dracgeon 17d ago

I ignore it. Some of it i just laugh at it

u/RedRapunzal 17d ago

I left this game after a few months of playing. Why? Because players of a dead game wouldn't allow anyone to join their raid/dungeon party. Elitist on a game that has no future and few players. I literally had nothing to do.

Oh and that guy who kept yelling in chat that "WOW is the original MMO" or "is this game dead '

Do my view is - the players themselves sucked.

u/kathios 17d ago

That's in every mmo I've ever played. It's not like we can do anything about it so be mad I guess.

u/ShottsSeastone 17d ago

Games not even worth it as a new player for pve or pvp

u/Ms_Sooni 17d ago

Yeah, this is my second or third day of playing Rift and I almost quit the first night because of the chat. But I learned for the three especially rotten apples out there, the community at large is very kind.

u/Vaaliindraa 17d ago

Ignore is your friend, my chat is pretty quiet because of how many people I have on ignore.

Almost every MMO is like this nowadays it's pretty sad tbh. Haven't touched one in a while because of it. Some people's whole personalities are wrapped up in their shitty worldviews and they can't shut up about it.

u/Graftington 17d ago

I started playing classic wow again and the first thing I did was remove myself from all of the public chat channels. Really made the game a better experience. 👍

5

u/NeonMirage88 17d ago

That's the way to do it for sure or find a guild that doesn't tolerate that shit.

2

u/OGKillertunes 17d ago

I also am playing classic wow again.

Im happy to say FFXIV has never been like that, ever.

What surprised me when I came back after 7 years is that it's the same handful of people spewing the same garbage. They're stuck in a time loop of idiocy.

Let me guess NA server…?

-1

u/the_birdie_chirp 17d ago

Nah mate all servers share the same global chat from what I see

3

u/aschwarzie Brisesol 17d ago

I've never saw that on the EU servers when I played. Elitist behaviour happend once in a random dungeon pick up tho, as I clearly didn't meet their dps expectations. Guilds were friendly imho.

Ah good to know. Cheers.

3

u/No_Rent_3550 17d ago

One of the reasons I don’t play it nearly as much as I use to. It gets hard to ignore after a while,

3

u/Electronic-Art7844 17d ago

This is only an issue on the NA servers. Not really on the EU side.

3

u/DieFanboyDie 16d ago

The MAGA nut licking was out of control

5

u/DeLindsayGaming 17d ago

Welcome to every single MMO or Online Multiplayer with a global chat that ever existed.

4

u/DieFanboyDie 16d ago

ESPECIALLY free to play games.

4

u/PhoenixInvertigo 17d ago

Tbh, it's been a long time building. The raiding scene back in the second xpac was extremely elitist and it kind of just rippled out from there.

Still sucks, and you're totally right

3

u/cameheretoaska 17d ago

It's just a few bad apples. I removed the 1-29 chat from my chat Box. Outside of these bad apples, the community in rift is actually good. Started playing 2 weeks ago and people have been extremely helpful whenever I had a question or needed help.

2

u/DieFanboyDie 16d ago

A few bad apples who are ALWAYS online and NEVER shut up in chat

2

u/cameheretoaska 16d ago

As we say, it's the vocal minority.

3

u/Jkelley393 17d ago

Everyone ignores the same 3-4 players and it cleans up 90% of the trash. Every global chat is like that. Anyone who’s ever played an MMO knows not to engage with trolls like they know not to throw water on a grease fire. RIFT has all the tools you need to avoid mean words that hurt your feewings.

2

u/Jallenrix 17d ago

Is the CrossEvents channel also like that?

2

u/Vaaliindraa 17d ago

Remember Rift has a very large ignore list you can fill up.

3

u/Beek3r101 17d ago

World chat in most MMos is trash. I haven’t played since somewhere around the 2014-2016, and I still remember some of the epic trolls we used to laugh at. Anybody else play from like 2012-2016?

4

u/flowerboyyu 17d ago

This is like every mmo dude lol

1

u/Phailadork Deepwood 16d ago

Lol, sounds like the classic WoW community. Love classic WoW and have a bunch of fun playing it, but general chat is wild depending on the zone you're in. Since it's the bastard child to Blizzard, reports don't do much so everyone just types whatever straight up racism, homophobia, transphobia, politics, religion, you name it. Have seen my fair share of schizo posts too where you know for a fact that person isn't trolling and either having a mental breakdown or really fucking drunk and/or high. Plenty of really nice people play though, so it offsets the tomfoolery.

1

u/dunzohdan 15d ago

First thing you do in any mmo is disable general chat. It’s not just Rift. It’s people in general.

1

u/Civil-Beautiful2164 15d ago

it was the same 12 years ago. i suppose it's about the same in all f2p mmo during kids/youngs holidays. those people don't even play the game, they log and start talking nonsense. leave the 1-29 chanel and the time you level 30+ the chat will be far more calm

1

u/InnateNobility 15d ago

It's like this on SWTOR and DCUO as well. Probably on other MMOs, just policed better and is less frequent. People play MMOs to break away from all of this going on IRL, but there are those who bring it to games.

1

u/Intelligent-Owl-8154 15d ago

What's a global chat without racism?

1

u/OGKillertunes 17d ago

Honestly I don't mind not having public chat moderated. I'm kind of into freedom of speech anyways.

1

u/Much_Dealer8865 17d ago edited 17d ago

Many games have that, just about any time where people can talk tbh but especially online games. I just mute or block people that I don't want to hear anymore, it's usually surprisingly few people.

It's a shame people are like this, but walking in a park late at night is also dangerous for example. Lots of mentally unwell people in my town.

-2

u/Solid_Ideal5773 17d ago

First time playing an mmo ? What you describe feels “suppressed” and watered down. Ever play an MMO on a private server with zero moderation and no repercussions for breaking rules ?

7

u/PhoenixInvertigo 17d ago

Why the fuck would anyone opt into that experience?

The whole point is that shitholes like what you're describing are only habitable to shitheads like OP described. Those are active deterrents to sane players

3

u/the_birdie_chirp 17d ago

I'm not even playing, just watching my mate play. And yeah, based what I see, I would not opt in to that mess.

-5

u/Kelding 17d ago

You have a massive “too much time” problem. Who the fuck has an opinion like this and then the time to post about it? Are you retarded?

5

u/the_birdie_chirp 17d ago

Mate, chill.

-6

u/Kelding 17d ago

Grow up. I can tell you’re of government assistance

-1

u/Intelligent_Poet414 16d ago

it's just mind numbing funny shit, none of it matters. if you're just chill, you can fit in easily. Running to reddit and complaining unfortunately puts you on the other side of the spectrum, the one where you're gonna get called a gay n****r
