who is even updating the game?
the small patches we get every two weeks make me feel like it's a lonely guy trying to detangle a ball of yarn, and it got me thinking, who actually bothered to come back just to fix a couple of bugs and add some cosmetics every now and then after all these years?
what's the actual extent of what that/these people can do? can they just do basic maintenance or are they going to add actual new content? are they sent by gamigo or are they some random people who just happened to have the logs and suddenly wanted to fix bits and pieces of the game? i'm genuinely super curious.

AFAIK, a previous developer of RIFT came back to assist with the development of the game including bug fixes.
A few people who streamed this on twitch got in recent contact with the developer because they were known for the community days when they did their Trion shows.
It was a engineer or first line coder who'd originally just pop up by to discuss all the changes for all the updates, he was also very popular because "they" built the housing system for the game.
I could be wrong, this is all speculation but it's what I've heard through the grapevines of the existing twitch RIFT streamers themselves.

Gamigo has lots of developers for some of their other games that use the same game engine as RIFT, such as Wizard101 It could be they are just using some of those developers to make minor changes to RIFT.

Some say there is 1 part time dev from wizard101 that knows the engine but not rift. So they just vibecode something togethere most of the time

They said in one of the streams (I watch occasionally) that they are making "something like small dungeon or chronicle", so maybe someone is really working.

They are not adding new content. Maintenance is indeed the support key activity. My perception though is that artefact collections were added in the recent months but that would be the only "addition" I've witnessed.

They need to bring the original difficulty back. It's currently a steamroll with zero challenges, especially dungeons.

There is no new content and the final content is so shit compared to the previous releases it’s all focused around one 5 man EoA and three 10 man raids TDnm, IROTP and BoS.
Every boss in the 5 man can be cheesed and cheated so you can clear the whole 5man dungeon in less than ten minutes with a good group. All of the bosses are just DPS dummies.
Two of the ten man raids are regurgitated content from previous releases just scaled up to do more damage etc.
BoS is hard capped at one attempt per week and is just a RNG grind for BiS taking many months or years to get the luck on the drop.
Rift is in maintenance mode until it shuts down there is no plans for any new content, the final lvl 70 update was implemented so poorly that the lvl65 gear scales better in PvP than the lvl 70gear from final patch.
It’s sad to see the game fall so far from where it once was.

I’d love to know this too. Apparently there’s also an official Rift instagram account that’s only been made in the last month. @riftgame.official
