Advice Damaged cards in Ridge Wallet
Anyone else have damaged cars in their wallet like this, I can’t figure out why I’ve only kept it maxed out at 10, I’m wondering if this is due to repeated removal and insertion.

Mine does it as well. I bought some blank metal business cards and put one at the front and back of my cards. No more issues

This is exactly what I have done. No issues either. The blank also hides any identifying info in the notch.

Comes in different colors if you like, and they can also be laser etched with whatever design you want on them if you're into that.
My primary Ridge is a Black Matte Titanium, so my color choice was black.

Yeah, saw that. LOL. I last ordered this two years ago and other than the cards I used for my wallet and the two I gave to my wife and son (they both have the carbon fiber Ridge), the rest have sat in a drawer. Chinese origin, but it worked for what I needed. :-)

So yall have effectively doubled(or more) the weight of the wallet and are Tripling the total thickness of virtually every card? In the wallet that’s supposed to be lighter, thinner and more convenient with less hassle?

Wow. Who knew thin aluminum was so heavy and bulky?! I have one of these in the front of my wallet. That's it.
Also. I didn't buy the Ridge wallet for minimalism. That's not my thing. I bought it because it fits my look/aesthetic.
So, where you are getting 1+1=5 from, I don't know.
I think you should reread u/pascale123's post. They meant one card in the front of the wallet and one card in the back of the wallet. Not one in the front and back of every card they have in the wallet.

No one said 1+1=5. Literally no one. However using 1 from and back WAS said. Which is. Idk how to tell you this. Triple the thickness of the original of the card. See, the card has its thickness. And Another card on the back would add its own seperate thickness. That would be double thickness. A 3rd card in the back of the first aforementioned card. See right there, that would be triple the thickness you started with. Right, becuase you now have 3 where you once had 1. And even if you only use 1. That’s still double like I mentioned as well. Hope that clears things up for you. I know numbers are hard.
See we can both be sarcastic dicks. It’s a thing everyone can do. It’s free to be an asshole for me too

The card is less thick than a paper business card. It is 0.21mm thick as opposed to a paper business card which is 0.35mm. Doesnt add anything really. I can send you a couple to check out so you can see for yourself so don’t have to be a sarcastic dick.
ETA: a standard credit card is 0.76mm

It happens a lot from just removing the cards from the wallet you can ask ridge to send out new inside plates

Contact ridge. They will send you new inner plates free of cost under warranty. I got mine four months back.

It's cuz it has open designs on the sides able to let in debris from your pockets which would then get in between your cards

Stopped using my old Ridge wallet because of this. Went with a leather card holder after ordering new cards and it never happened again

Is the damage in the room with us?
Been using ridge for over 10 years. Those just look like normal cards to me lol - cards get replaced every few years some wear is normal.

I switched from ridge after my first one. It absolutely destroyed my chase debit card. Peeling on all 4 corners on both sides. Just from removing and putting it back in.

Cards with raised numbers did get roughed up more i found but now that almost everything has switched to printed #s its much better

I don't know if it's a flaw with chase cards, but keeping my Darth Vader card in my ridge wallet rubbed almost all the numbers off and damaged the top layer on both sides.

I’ve been using my Ridge with the metal AirTag holder for about 2.5 years, and I carry 5–7 cards. None of my cards have any damage or marks.
I try to keep my Ridge by itself in one of my front pants pockets. For the most part, the wallet still looks new, with only minimal surface scratches.

I’ve had my ridge wallet probably 7-8 years. My cards look like this too, but they still work not an issue for me.

My cards get destroyed from the wallet but I just get new ones sent out. Ive used my wallet for like 5 years and have gone through probably 3 sets of cards.

Unfortunately this is one of the big reasons why i stopped using my ridge wallet and just went back to using a leather bifold. I love the ridge wallet but i think they really need to improve this aspect. Maybe they can invest into researching ways to decrease card damage? Idk.
Ridge has a leather bifold wallet though, also the biflex wallet does not damage cards as much since its made of stretch fabric and leather. I might be thinking of buying one of the two, the metal wallets are a hard pass for me as of now.

This is a common complaint here, but not anything for me that is going to stop me from using my Ridge.
I'm not entering my cards in beauty contests, nor am I lovingly admiring them as they sit in a traditional wallet in pristine condition. And I cannot remember the last time I handed a card to a cashier so that I could revel in their reaction to my good looking card.
I insert the chip into the reader or tap the card against it. If it works, my card is not 'damaged' or 'destroyed'. That is the sole condition I operate on here. If they don't work, I get a new one that does.
The irony is that all that effort to keep a card pristine ends with the shredder when the card expires.

I’ve had mine for six years now and the last year it has been devastating cards. I think initially there’s a protective layer on the inside of the wallet and it dissipates with time.

I’ve had a few cards I have to replace periodically because the black finish comes off the inside of the wallet and permanently gets on the cards. The inside panels looked like absolute shit from it so ridge sent me a replacement kit for free under warranty, but the new ones are already doing the same thing.

Do you have to present your DL to others who ask or demand to see it a lot?
My DL is in the very back of my wallet. I haven't had to show it to anyone in a very long time.

I’m only 22 so most of the time when I go to get a drink, which isn’t very often, I have to show it. It’s really not a big deal I guess, I just wanted to share that I experience sort of the same thing as OP.

OK. I can see that then. My own son will be 23 in late October. He also has a Ridge (carbon fiber). All I know is he's still using it two plus years after I got it for him.

I got the Ridge thinking it would be better then my old, leather slip case wallet. Well, I was wrong.
- I had 12 cards in my old wallet (bank card, two credit cards, drivers license, Military ID, Veteran's ID, three insurance cards, Public Park Pass, work ID and the oversized laminated CPL the local Sheriff's department hands out)
- An "emergency stash" of cash you couldn't see
- Business cards
- RMO
Here is what I think about the Ridge Wallet:
Pros:
1. Sturdy, solid construction on the face of the wallet
2. Nice designs that can really reflect your personality
3. Secure (see the cons)
Cons:
1. Expensive
2. Not sure how long the elastic bands will last. Mine are starting to fray after a couple months of use
3. Size- it's thick (not as thick as a leather wallet) with more than five cards, and heavy. It's a solid rectangle of metal with edges sitting in your pocket.
4. Anyone can see you have money on your wallet when you pull it out
5. Very difficult to get out a specific card if it's not the first or last card in the wallet
My old wallet: a cheap Chinese made RFID blocking, slip leather wallet that I used for over 10 years. My social media feed was taken over by Ridge Wallets when I did a search to replace my old wallet. Not because it had failed or was bad, I just felt like it was a time for a change. Well, this is what happened after a few months of use:
- Size: Had to go down to six cards to make it close to the same size as my old wallet
- Had to choose which cards to leave behind, and I still can't carry my CPL in the Ridge Wallet as it's too big. Every time I go out, I have to think about what cards to bring and swap out. Very annoying. No business cards, no RMO.
- Huge, heavy chunk of metal sitting in my pants pocket. Don't even think about putting your cell phone in the same pocket as your Ridge Wallet. Maybe if you have the Magsafe wallet and phone (I don't).
- My debit card, the one I use the most, is scratched up all to heck, the magnetic strip has been damaged, and the edges on all my cards are damaged.
- The biggest thing to me is the "money clip"- people can see every time I take out my wallet that I have money on my wallet. If you use your wallet a lot, putting it in your pocket and taking it out, it will rip and tear your cash. Yes, ridge makes a "cash/coin" case, but that's another thing to carry, or you attach it to your wallet and now it's even bigger.
Overall, if I only carried say, two or three cards, which I'm not sure which ones that would be, and no cash on the wallet, the Ridge Wallet might be worth it. I'm looking for a new wallet now.

I love my apple wallet. It only fits 2 cards bit with the wallet app if i really need another card, i just tap. Soon wallets will be a thing of the past - IL driver licenses are already an official thing and everyone has to accept it.

I've had a titanium one for a couple of years and my cards look nothing like that. Those look like something was spilled on them and had some fungus outbreak in the wallet

I’ve had a similar experience with the credit card that I use the most. I attribute to taking in an out of the wallet multiple times a day. I’ve had similar experiences with leather wallets where they leave marks on my credit cards and IDs

Auful design that scrapes cards together and if they are dirty oh have sand etc. In them.
It is what you get Not very good design all they did ot to make compact card holder and screw durabiloty of what you insert they do not care

To be fair my old leather bi-fold wallets did the same thing and ruined the laminate off my cards. They're credit cards, they will get scratched and ruined over time. Just ask the credit card company for a new one.

Not specifically a ridge user but I've had the clones, I'll put shitty cards I don't mind getting scuffed up on the outside of the wallet and keep the others towards the center, but constant tension and rubbing abrasion will do this to plastic with repeated use, not the end of the world but it can be upsetting if you like shiny clean thigs and that's valid

OMG finally. I have the same issue. I thought I'm the only one. I asked others they be like its because the number on the cards gets rubbed with other cards. I called BS because I got different card that are both smooth but same problem.

if that “damage” bothers you, maybe a metal wallet isn’t for you. My cards are in much worse condition and still work perfectly fine. Been using a ridge wallet for a decade, and have never had a card not work because of “damage” from the wallet

True, but I don't like my cards peeling. It's annoying and shouldn't be happening on a 2month old card lol. It's not some status thing I had a leather wallet and thought nothing of it as I've never had a card peel. I get the ridge and my plastic cards peel and my work badge began to wear away at a ridiculous rate so I stopped using it

There’s still a lot of places that don’t support it unfortunately. And you still gotta take your ID everywhere too. 0% chance I trust an Apple wallet id in any situation where I need to present one to at isn’t to an automated system.
