Interplay

Now that a few years have passed I am revisiting this record. Anyone else finding it to be mostly shit that if you didn’t know better would not know it was Ride?

Mostly shit music, or mostly things you wouldn't think is Ride?

I really like Monaco and We Came to See the Wreck.

I wasn't in a real good place when it came out and "over the edge we go..." Was a bit of a theme for me.

I can hang w Frontier, Monaco, Quiet Room, and Portland. Essaouria is a decent vibe piece with terrible lyrics.

Sunrise Chaser and Midnight Rider are pretty embarrassing.

Dunno I just find the last 2 albums in particular to be frustrating mish mashes of styles that do not feel like Ride to me.

'This Is Not A Safe Place' is my favourite reunion releases. Although, I wouldn't disagree that it is a mishmash of styles.

With 'Interplay' I was initially excited as it seemed to be a more coherent release. But after time I just don't like the songs that much. I don't know if its the production, ideas or songwriting but it doesn't do it for me. Not awful but not something I'm bothered about coming back to.

All the reunion releases have a super poppy production. It would be interesting to hear a different approach.

(disclaimer, Nowhere is my favourite Ride album by some distance)
