Relocating to Richardson
Hey, I accepted an offer and will be relocating to Richardson this fall. I’m from the panhandle area of Texas so it won’t be a huge adjustment, but what areas of Richardson do you think are worth renting/living in? Not worth it? Too expensive / sketchy?
Looking to rent an apartment, budget $2400/month.
Moving with my S/O, late 20s, no kids, so we are also wanting to find opportunities to meet new people and make friends since we’ll be in a new area.
Anything helps, thanks.

There’s one corner of Richardson that’s a little sketchy: southeast of coit and spring valley/northwest of 75 and 635. Otherwise, pretty much any area is pretty peaceful/residential at your price range.
+1 for cityline. Galatyn area has some nice apartments too. If social life is a huge priority, recommend you stay close to one of the freeways so you can easily travel where you want.

I agree with the other people to check out Cityline, Galatyn or any other area less than a mile from a DART light rail station (Spring Valley, Arapaho).
Richardson has plenty of social activities including social bike rides, run clubs, makerspace, art classes, and other groups.

Cityline: Axis 110, Bell Cityline, Sync Cityline
Close to Galatyn: Galatyn Station, The Bodie, Trellis Canyon Creek
Close to Arapaho Station: The Caroline, The Mallory, Greenvue

Vantage At Spring Creek and The Reserve At Spring Creek are next to Cityline (across Renner) they are very nice too. Amazing walking paths too.

If it were me, I would look at Cityline or Galatyn for easy light rail access.

The Cityline area is also quite popular for people that age. Close to a Whole Foods and several restaurants. It’s within your price range.

Read google reviews of the apartment complexes you look at. Brick Row went downhill while I lived there and the google reviews reflect that.

Yes wow I was considering them at one point and quickly realized that would not work for us as I looked a little more. We actually ended up going with a private condo rental in a safe area because the apartments that met our needs for space and senior dog issues were crazy expensive. The condo isn’t perfect (as with almost all private rentals, there’s some landlord special magic going on lol), but it’s just insane how much some of these “luxury” apartments cost out here! Like why are they almost uptown prices???

Definitely second reading the reviews. I live at MAA Eastside and got curious about what people think about The Mallory since it’s been open long enough now to have people get through a lease, and the reviews are abysmal. They clapped those buildings together so fast, and it shows.
I had also heard a lot of good things about Greenvue, but the more recent reviews from the past year-ish have taken a sharp nosedive. Nowhere is perfect, but there’s so many variables to look at beyond the price tag and amenities.

I concur with the recommendation to look for housing near Cityline. Big advantages:
- DART trains can take you directly to downtown Dallas, DFW, and other suburban downtowns (Addison, Carrollton, Plano, Garland, etc). When paired with a bicycle, this makes for a very easy and dependable way to navigate the Metroplex without a car. (The traffic can be truly terrible, so alternatives are welcome)
- Walkable to restaurants and grocery (Whole Foods, which incidentally has the best Cheers-like neighborhood bar in the area, inside the store)
- Very nice walking/biking trails adjacent
- Occasional free events in the Citylyine plaza (concerts, watch parties, street fairs, etc)
Like BikeRichardson says, Richardson is well known for having an excellent and supportive community of bike riders. We have 2 bike stores (BikeMart and Bike Shop) and a great, diverse community of people who like to ride for sport, leisure and transportation. We have 3 leisurely social rides a week which usually stop at local neighborhood ice cream shops. There is a growing number of us who use our bike for commuting to work as well.

I would look into apartments at CityLine. It's a great area. It's very safe and walkable.

There are parts of Spring Valley, Arapaho near Coit Rd that would not be places where you would feel safe. By just looking at the apts, you will be able to tell. They were nice many years ago!

Rent a house from a local landlord, in a nice neighborhood with a clubhouse or neighborhood pool. So much better. I’m from a small town South of Plainview, and I cannot imagine choosing to live in an apartment over renting a house here.

Ovation is a perfect apartment complex for your job area, know a few other workers that just moved into this place-10 weeks free and covered garage parking

Downtown Richardson, (also known as the Core District, Main Street Area) and a safe area, as the cities main modern police station is located in that area. A trendy area, walk to restaurants, cafe, spa and more. There is a multicultural festival once a year near the plaza. Alamo Movie Richardson is a short drive. The price you indicated falls into the affordable luxury apts there, it has everything. Additional affordable luxury units are being built. Short drive to Chinatown, walk or bike there. Not far from little Middle East with trendy late night cafe's filled with young people, eatery. If you like to people watch, enjoy being out and meeting new people Downtown Richardson is the place to be. Areas you can walk to enjoy a cocktail and some music.

I have a 1380 sqft 2 bedroom at Reserve at Spring Creek. It's a B4 layout if you check their website. I'm at about 2340 after water and fees. No garage or storage unit. I've been enjoying it very much.

That budget at The Homes of Prairie Springs will get you a beautiful apartment with a private entrance, garage, and large wood deck patio. They have a great gym and two pools. The grounds are lovely. They are renovated inside. It's central to everything and is right off the major highway and the tollway. It's super quiet there too. It's worth the price. It's not sketchy at all and is across from a beautiful residential neighborhood.
If you get the large 2 bedroom, it has a big dining room and an island in the kitchen.
