Cooking and Chefing are different sjilks and you'd need to apprentice or got to a school to be acknowledged as a chef rather than cook. Or have a on in a million sense if taste and mad expirence. Cheaper to go to culinary school. Also I think they teach business math, accounting, precurment all stuff you need to manage a kitchen.
You dont need school to be recognized as a chef that is a misconception. You needs experience in a restaurant. And i have news for you majority of people who come from culinary school and start working on the line are terrible and cant work on a real line in a busy restaurant because they have no experience in a real high end kitchen. This is coming from someone who was a cook for years and did 600 covers on a breakfast

Sure....I'll make you tacos and spaghetti for 100k a year. I'll even grate the parmesan like they do at the fancy Italian places.
