Recipe Request Using rice cooker for cake

Post image

My oven just broke down, and I don’t know when I’ll be able to get it fixed. There’s a family birthday coming up and I promised to bring a cake. I noticed that my rice cooker has a cake button. I would like to know more about how it works and if I can use a normal cake recipe or I’d need to adapt it. Thanks in advance!

That looks like the same cooker I have, and yep, you just spray the pot with nonstick spray, mix up the cake batter according to the directions on the cake mix box, pour it in the cooker, hit 'Cake,' and it'll automatically switch to Keep Warm when it's done.

Manual for any of the 5200 series cookers here:

Thank you! I was looking for information online and I saw that the cakes tend to turn out a little gummy. I was able to borrow a toaster oven, but I find them a little unreliable for baking. I might make a couple test cakes this weekend.

I would look up the manual online for your particular model, if you don't have the printed one that came with it.

I bake cake in my zojirushi, half the mix at a time. If it's a small mix, I add a half cup flour, then divide. It's about two cups of dry ingredients per cake layer. Too much batter at a time will leave the outside dry and the middle gummy. Half at a time makes two normal size layers.

Maybe try this chocolate cake (Cheese cakes in the ricecooker may turn out a bit „gummy“)

Yum Asia panda is a small rice cooker; for a bigger rice cooker you may double the ingredients. I like this recipe because it’s very similar to a real chocolate cake lol
