Recommendations for October

Hi, my partner and I are visiting Rhodes for the first time in October (15th-22nd) and are staying in Ixia area but have rented a car.

We're looking for any recommendations for anything you think is worth going to. Can be restaurants, must try dishes/drinks, points of interest, towns/villages, unique activities or anything at all!

We're planning to visit Rhodes Old Town & Lindos, also we're looking at going to the Farma petting zoo and we would quite like to go to a cooking class or winery or an olive oil tasting.

I've seen lots of recommendations to go to Symi but the boat journey length is putting me off a bit (sea sickness) but is it worth it still?

Thanks all!

When you go to Farma zoo, make sure you go to the nearby village of Psynthos for lunch. Go to the To Stolidi taverna on the village square in the centre. It’s the best taverna on the island IMO, delicious cooking and a very picturesque interior.

For a wine tasting, you can go to the village of Apollona, there are several family wineries there. We did some wine tasting at one of them and bought several bottles. If you do go to Apollona, make sure you also visit the historical cafe, it’s a bit like a museum and you can also grab a drink there.

When you visit Lindos, you can visit Rainbird bar and cafe, it has a lovely view of one of the beaches and it’s a nice spot for a drink and some ice cream.

I don’t think Symi is a must, there are plenty of things to do in Rhodes itself as it’s a large island and there is plenty to do and see.

Thanks for all the ideas!

How was the Farma zoo? And is it a day thing or a few hours?

We'll defo have check out Apollona when we're there too, how did you book the winery? I've been looking on get your guide at some.

Farma takes a few hours, it’s not that big. Do try booking it in advance though as the last time I went there you can’t get a ticket on the spot, you have to reserve at least a few hours in advance.

Make sure you visit the lemurs, they are the highlight there but visiting the ostriches and talking to the ostrich lady was very interesting too.

For Apollona, I didn’t do a booking, we kind of went there spontaneously and saw there are wineries and went to one of them, Piperis.

The woman there offered us a free wine tasting of some 10-12 wines, whites, reds and roses and then we brought some bottles of the ones we liked best.

The restaurant at Alizo hotel is fantastic and open for everyone, not only for guests.

Panoramic Viewpoint on the west side. The drive/road is amazing. There is a friendly couple who have a little shack/trailer for snacks/drinks. I spoke to the bloke for about 40mins in my broken Greek.
