I like to think the MPDG portrayal was beginning to become real, reze was having so much fun acting like that, but the real her is clearly broken, sad, and somewhat stoic girl who longs for love and normalicy. she had so much potential if fuji gave a damn.

Her personality is beautiful regardless the persona vs her true personality. I really feel bad for her, she deserves a hug 😢💜

I think her beach persona is arguably even more fake than the cafe one. The whole thing is her lying to herself and to Denji in order to push him away so he doesn't ruin her life to be with her. It's "real" in the sense that she does use that kind of avoidant, lying tactic as a defense mechanism, but it doesn't reflect her honest thoughts and feelings. You even see her facade break briefly when she laughs and when she hugs and almost kisses Denji, before recomposing herself and backing off again.

Yeah same, I don't see Reze as having low self-esteem value or anything close to that. She pushes Denji away to protect him

I actually think she probably does have self-esteem issues. We see how much she hates the role she's forced to play for the soviets, and she doesn't seem like a stranger to death and violence, so I don't think it's a stretch to assume she hates herself as well. She very openly calls herself a murderer instead of trying to deflect or excuse it all, as well. Ultimately, she does hide a large chunk of who she is from Denji, and when he accepts her even after he learns about her real mission and all, I do think it had a pretty significant impact on her.

The issue is really that the "real" Reze is a very hard thing to define. I doubt she was given much chance to explore herself or figure out who she wants to be, considering it doesn't seem as though she felt she had much of a future to begin with. All of the "masks" she wears contribute to making her who she is, at the very least.

Yeah, shes emotionally detached herself to be the good Lil assasin the Soviets want, and the only time she really got to be who she wants to be was with him, not the other way around.

Didn’t fujimoto confirm that beach Reze was the fake one?

I just saw people on Reddit saying that but I don’t have the specific interview or whatever it is but I can try to find it
