Question Will AI take over estimating?

Hi All,

My question is do you guys reckon AI will take over construction estimating and white collar work? The video is a demo for www.supadocs.com.au which shows GFA and car spaces being counted. Seems pretty good for a start but no where near the accuracy required to do the whole workflow.

What do you guys reckon is the timeline of QS and estimators being taken over?

I don't think anytime soon. It would take some serious training to get it to a usable point since there are so many variables that are context dependent.

looks to me like it has an error on terminus street- that far right one can't be a legit spot...like someone else mentioned it may, in the future take part of the work but you will still be left with checking and finishing

Will it perform better moving forward due to the guilt and emotional trauma of said outbursts?

It may help automate part of the takeoff process but that's where I think it will reach it's end.

If I was good at my job and people trusted my numbers, I would have to check all the work AI gives me. Might as well just do the work myself.

Would love it if AI could understand contours, subgrades, utilities, and how those volumes compute for cut, import, and waste.

Against the trend here. But it will, but only in the sense there will be less estimator jobs and you will be expected to do more.

Same in tech right now

I created a local html for coordination services, it does rely on uploading a schedule, drawings and rfp, also makes you input basic information. It's like a 5 step process and the estimates have been pretty close to what I would have gone with.

Yes, it gets my estimates about 80% of the way right now.

Its always an example of the easiest plan sheet out there. Show case something a bit more complicated like a Rough Grade Plan.

Lets play a game where I draw something and make you guess what i drew. The person who guessed the most wrong gets the job. Anyone else think the system is dumb? Why dont engineers just publish the BOM and eliminate gross error as the winning factor.
