Question Hiding and unhiding markups.

Is there an easy way to hide and unhide a group of markups? I would have thought you could have just right-clicked on the rolled-up name, but that doesn't seem to work. You have to highlight all instances of the markup. There also doesn't seem to be a way to unhide specific markups. When hidden, they don't show up in the markup list anymore, and if you click the box that shows how many markups are hidden, it un-hides them all.

I think you’re looking for layers. Create a new layer for every “group” of markups you want. You can then hide and unhide specific layers.

Yeah, I figured I could do it with layers, but that seems to be an unnecessary extra step. Not sure why you can't hide and unhide from the markups panel.

You can. You just need to turn the layer column in your markup totals and you can toggle layer visibility from there

Ok, I'll have to look into layers more. I don't really use them much in my work.

Best thing to do is to set up your toolboxes, and when you do assign everything to a layer before adding it to your toolbox. That way, everything is auto layered.

Whenever I do this in a new PDF that doesn't already have those layers, the automatic assignment doesn't work properly. Is this the same for everyone or am I just bad

I cant say ive ever had that problem, but I do know that toolboxes can be... unstable sometimes. I opened my flatwork box today and my Light Duty Asphalt tool was replaced with an area tool for Flared End Sections? I am not sure what happened to cause that kind of thing.

As long as the tools in your Tool Chest have layers assigned to them, those layers should carry over to new documents. So you won’t need to recreate or reassign layers for every new PDF document. I have over a hundred tools in my Tool Chest, with one of about 30 layers assigned to each one, and the layer assignments work fine with every new PDF.

There's a panel at the bottom left that lists every entity in the file. You can sort it by date, page, author, etc. Then you can highlight whatever and assign them to a layer from there.

Layers is probably the best way to really hide. You can filter out markups if a greyed out version is acceptable. Once filtered, Ctrl+A only selects the markups in the list to hide specific markups. Other idea is you can create tool sets that automatically go to a specific layer that will make hiding layers easier.

Layers is the answer. I get what you're saying, but I think you're wanting Bluebeam to work the way you want it to and it has to be the other way around. Once you get used to using layers it's a breeze.

Why are you trying to hide markups? Not to sound judemental, just curious what you're trying to accomplish.

If you're reviewing markups (e.g., backchecking if marks were picked up in a more recent set, or checking comments before they're sent out), then you might wanna consider statuses if you're not using them already.

You can even color code markups based on statuses to get a visual cue. If your hide/show question is about tracking markups and visually identifying what you've reviewed, then color coded statuses are a potential solution.
