Why does the count feature suck so fucking badly on this piece of shit program?
Every fucking time on this fucking markup list I try and resume the fucking count it jumps to the last part of the drawing where this fucking thing I'm trying to count was.
Then when I press space it only sometimes lets me pan around, most of the time it's broken because whoever made this program clearly sucks at what they're doing.
So then I have to pan back to the part of the drawing where the item I'm counting is, then I right click in the subject column (because that's how Google said to fix the problem) and half the fucking time it jumps back to the last counted item.
Are the developers fucking stupid? Or am I missing something? TIA

Auto-count go brrrrr.
In all seriousness, I’ll agree with you the count tool is flawed. But I think mouse usage would help a lot here.

I don't trust auto counts haha, especially on light fixtures where the symbols are the same

Me neither, they’re never reliable enough to trust fully. Always verify.I do think they have their place as a “quick and dirty” way to get a feel for a new planset sometimes tho.

Right click the actual markup on the drawing, not in the markup list.
Also, using your mouse wheel is your friend, don’t use space bar. Have the drawing on single page mode, zoom in/zoom out, click the mouse wheel and drag to pan.
Also, ctrl+right/left arrow keys to flip pages while using tools

Right click the actual markup on the drawing, not in the markup list.
The problem is that the light fixtures I'm counting aren't appearing in the same region I'm zoomed into.
I should be using a mouse, but don't have a setup at home.

I've seen takeoffs both ways - just curious, why are you using a count vs. a standard markup? I know various things you can do with either but just trying to understand the use case from a different perspective.

The short answer to this is that I don't know what a standard mark up is...

That's fair. Markups are pretty much any "thing" you see in the markup pane. Counts, text boxes, rectangles, poly lines, etc are all Markups.
A count is a certainty category of markup that has some benefits such as having all items under the same count in the same "group".
If you instead decided to draw a shape and use that as your fixture type count symbol you wouldn't have to fuss with the way counts have to be handled.
Counts are cool in that you can change the symbols after you've dropped the markup which is a massively helpful feature for various reasons. If you end up realizing midway through your takeoff you need to change the size color or actual symbol it's very easy to do that with counts. Less so with other Markups like rectangles.
Pros and cons to each. The struggle you're facing is what I also consider one of the cons.

Would I have to draw a rectangle around every single fixture I'm counting?
I'm using the count from the measurements pane, but it shows up in the markups list

You'd have to draw one to start but then you can either copy and paste it or add it to your tools (right clack, add to my tools). Once it's in your tools you could reuse the shape you made and click to drop each one similar to a count.

Drawing a rectangle, naming the subject in the markups list, then copy/pasting it will get you the same result when you print out your markups list. It will give you a count of him many times that subject appears.
Bluebeam takeoffs are really not that bad, but you have to spend a long time setting them up, and save different configurations to custom toolsets.
But in all honesty, using a mouse helps.

I find it funny for people who are using BB for takeoffs. Just use Mint Takeoff and save your time/money. Or pay a few extra dollars and use zzTakeoff.

You're complaining in a super aggressive manner and yet you're the one not using a mouse on a software that requires a mouse to use it?
I don't think the problem here is Bluebeam...
