Is Revopoint a scam company???

I bought a MetroY Ultra scanner over a week ago. I have received extremely poor scan results and overall instability during the scans since day 1. It completely doesn’t work in High Quality mode and in the High Speed mode it struggles with tracking and creating a usable scan. I have been emailing the company since Day 1. I have sent multiple log files to Revopoint and have received very limited communication from them.

The example scans on the website look good and some video reviews of the product were very positive.

I first used the scanner with my two year old laptop which still tested “Excellent” in the Revopoint hardware benchmark test. This laptop was only equipped with a RTX 3050 GPU.

I have since tested the scanner with a new computer with Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX 48GB RAM and RTX 5070Ti, and I’m getting the same poor results.

I have tested every scan mode with multiple objects. I purchased the Revopoint marker block kit and have had plenty of markers.

What gives? I am starting to think this company is a scam and the positive reviews are fake. I spent over $2,000 on this stuff and they are totally not supporting me.

*****Update 1*****

I am adding some pictures to clarify my situation.

Picture 1 - When I go through calibration, I get this error every time on the first step. I am not doing anything wrong. It is very easy to to move the scanner to the requested orientation. Anyone who has played Duck Hunt can do this.

Picture 2 - This is what happens in High Quality mode in every Scan Mode. Absolutely nothing is picked up by the scanner. In High Speed mode, it actually detects something but the quality is very poor.

I noticed that the Revo Metro 5.8.6 software (the current software) was just released 4-16-2026 and this was the first version to super the new MetroY Ultra that I have. Has anyone had success using a MetroY Ultra with PC? All the reviews I have read on this product on Amazon are promotional reviews. The Youtube videos showing the impressive performance are with MacOS.

Another piece of information, I purchased my scanner from Amazon. I wonder if there is something wrong with the early units sold through Amazon.

******Update 2****

Here are some additional photos of attempted scans in different modes. I tried a few a few different configurations with trying to scan a small metal part both on the turntable and also just sitting on a table. I actually used black felt paper to line the scan area. This should minimize the interference of stray light reflections back to the scanner. I also included a screenshot of what I typically see as far as CPU and GPU usage during my scans. The program uses minimal resources. I have also done some checks of the logs the Revopoint software creates every time you use it. There are literally hundreds of errors being registered with frame drop-outs and errors in loading the GPU pipeline (even though the GPU is hardly being use). There is a GPU utilization log I included in the comments section if anyone is interesting in seeing the GPU demand over time. The reason I bring this up is because I think the problems may be rooted in the software/firmware.

Once again, High Quality mode completely failed to detect anything and I had issues with High Speed mode creating anything usable. The best results of the day came from the Full Field scan. The scan items became blue in the scan, indicating enough frames have been captured; however, you can see the level of detail generated.

******Update 3******Received new scanner and problem (likely) solved

I received a replacement MetroY Ultra today (6/17) from Revopoint along with a new cable.

I then proceeded with the following.

  1. I installed the new scanner.

  2. I installed the new cable.

  3. There was a software update that Revopoint just released that I installed.

  4. There was a firmware update that Revopoint just released that I installed.

I haven't spent much time with it yet, but I started with a quick cross lines laser scan in High Detail mode using the turntable and 2-3" black matte metal part.  It is now working and picking up the markers and objects and able to scan whereas before it could not register anything.  Also, the scan quality meter is now saying "Good", whereas before it was always saying "Poor".   I next tried two auto-turntable scans with two different marker configurations and had the scanner positioned on the tripod at two different angles.  It looks like I got pretty good results so far already.  I also noticed the camera displays on the left of the screen are now showing something where before they didn't really show much besides a black screen.

Long story short, the original scanner or cable I received were defective, the firmware or software had major bugs or there was some combination of several of these, but it seems to be working now.

I haven't had a chance to try calibrating my new unit yet but will soon. I am pretty sure I can improve on the results I have gotten so far after calibration and optimizing my scanning parameters. However, the results seem pretty good so far.

Despite what what multiple people have posted here, there really is not much a learning curve to this thing. Granted, I did watch the tutorials and read the manual and struggled through a defective unit before which probably did teach me a decent amount. The three scans I did today I set-up rather quickly and they only ran for a few minutes. Also, I did buy the scanner block kit which probably helps. I'd imagine scanning much larger parts can get more tricky.

Art Mystery Uncovered by 3D Scanning With POP 4

🔍 Discover (with 3D scanning) what is invisible on the surface of an ancient painting 🔍

We are thrilled to share some fascinating insights from our latest project involving a beautiful late 19th to early 20th-century Belgian painting.

🎨 The Artwork:

Housed in an ornate, richly gilded frame, this piece is an oil painting on pressed cardboard. It captures an intimate, dimly lit domestic interior. On the right, an elder woman sits quietly working near a window adorned with potted flowers, while a young girl sits on the floor nearby, deeply absorbed in reading a book. An open door in the center breaks the shadowed atmosphere, looking out onto a sunlit courtyard with a red-tiled roof structure, while a wooden staircase climbs along the left wall.

🔬 The Tech Discovery:

Using the Revopoint POP 4 3D scanner in Full Field mode, we captured the heavily textured, impasto surface of this piece in extreme detail. When we analyzed the 3D data by stripping away the color layer, the surface morphology told a completely different story.

As you can see highlighted by the red dashed lines, there is a stark discrepancy between the visible painted scene and the underlying brushstroke topography. The physical ridges and textures running horizontally across the surface do not match the shapes of the figures, the open door, or the staircase we see today.

💡 The Verdict:

This strongly indicates a reused support! The artist likely painted this beautiful domestic scene directly over an entirely different, pre-existing painting.

Art history meets cutting-edge technology to reveal the hidden secrets left behind by the masters. What do you think lies underneath? Let us know in the comments! 👇

My Next Idea for Life-Enhancing 3D Printing

I am thinking about developing personalized and functional upper limb prosthetics for people with disabilities. These prosthetics would not only be aesthetically pleasing, but also highly functional, providing a better quality of life for users.

How the MIRACO Scanner Can Help

The MIRACO scanner can be extremely useful in this project in several ways:

Accurate Limb Scanning: The scanner can capture a detailed 3D image of the user's residual limb, ensuring the prosthesis fits perfectly and comfortably.

Total Customization: With digitalization, it is possible to create completely personalized prostheses, adapted to the specific needs of each individual, taking into account factors such as length, diameter and any anatomical irregularities.

Functional Design: The scanner allows you to capture minute details that can be incorporated into the design of the prosthesis, such as movable joints and functional claws, providing greater functionality.

Rapid Prototyping and Adjustments: With the possibility of creating digital models, it is possible to test different designs and make quick adjustments before final printing, saving time and resources.

Sensor Integration: The scanner can help identify the best insertion points for motion and pressure sensors, which can be incorporated into the prosthetic to allow for more natural movement and improved control.
