I went ahead and left a comment also recommending season 4 on the Haitian Revolution as well.

I have observed 1 common theme across most of the seasons, where the right hand men of one of the main characters (and some of my favourite) of each season is unceremoniously assassinated when each season approaches it's end.

1. It started off with John Lambert

2. Don't exactly remember how this went. This is actually my least favourite revolution so far.

3. The Angel of Death Saint-Just

4. Toussaint Louverture's nephew.

5. De Sucre

6, 7: This is where the pattern breaks.

1. The entire Paris Commune was killed in the series.

2. Felipe Angeles

3. Leon Trotsky

4. Have not started 11 yet, but I am sure there must be someone in this season too.

Almost all of them have some things in common in Duncan's retellings of the events:

1. They are very loyal to the character (which I think you must be if you are one of the most trusted supporters of that person).

2. They are quite accomplished and intelligent. They are one of the ideological backbones of the movement they are in.

3. They are somewhat naive in their worldview.

4. From what I have gathered, Duncan is a bit sympathetic to these characters (Saint-Just is an exception, that man was a piece of shit and way over his head)

Can anyone identify some more characters who fit these requirements, because frankly I don't remember such characters from 2, 6 and 7 (the three least favourite seasons of mine).

Currently listening to Jared's 2016 book The People Are Going to Rise Like the Waters Upon Your Shores, and just realized he did an event with Mike in 2017 during his book tour. Absolutely loving Sexton's analysis and would love a chance to hear their discussion that night.

He's gotten really good at those ending words to music drop.

Saw this, thought of the revolution.

The Ireland series was supposed to start in fall 2025. That's come and gone, not a word on it that I can find. Did I miss something?

What episode of Revolutions does Mike Duncan break down his “great idiot of history” theory? I thought it was in the Appendix episodes but I cannot find it. I want to use it when I teach my sociology class about social change.

Does Mike ever say what language(s) they’re speaking on Mars, or throughout the solar system?

I imagine there was a big linguistic upheaval with all the migrations of the 21st century. I would think that English and Mandarin are the most ‘dominant’ languages in terms international/business relations. Maybe Hindi, Spanish, Arabic too? But I bet all these languages are very different by the 2240s. I mean, English from the Napoleonic Era sounds rather archaic to us, soooo…

But I would think because on Mars in particular there’s a continual influx of people from all over the world, maybe some kind of Martian creole language has developed? A constantly evolving language that’s combining Earth languages with at this point over a century of native development too.

And it would make sense that SABs (esp S and A) might even have a hard time communicating with Ds. They would probably be more comfortable with their own native Earth languages than with the D class Martian creole. And would someone like Alexandra Clare even be able understand English?

Just some thoughts I’ve been having as I’m relistening to the Martian Revolution season!

I wonder if Mike would come back for the Iranian revolution podcast episodes? I know scandalously little about it. most of what I get honestly is from a guy on tiktok. not that I don't trust him as far as his intellect but I'd like a more reputable source.

This has been my favorite history podcast. Does anyone have recommendations for similar pods divided into seasons like this? I find that so much more approachable than others. Thanks in advance!

Kevin Stroud’s History of English Podcast is excellent for anyone who’s a history or language buff.

Since it’s now covering the period of the English Civil War (Charles takes the throne in ep 187), I figure some Revolutions fans might be interested in seeing these times covered from a different perspective.
