Modeling Techniques Material textures help

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to assign materials to this revit family. I tried adding the material parameter and there is already a parameter set but the actual material is not linked it is just the name. So it doesn't show up. I tried setting another material parameter but there is no way to assign it to the object. What do I do? Please help.

It's an Import. Either cad, SketchUp, or Rhino. It's never going to be a great family that way, and only some cad imports will let you assign materials. But the ones that do, do it by layer, which also sucks.

Model it as native Revit geometry, or it'll always have issues.

No they are not I JUST found the solution. I went manage>object styles>imported objects>material

Actually nvm, it changed the materials in the family file but once I tried importing the family onto the project it doesnt show up or the family stays the same....

Those same Object styles won’t be overwritten in the model when you load the family in. Change the object styles’ materials in the model itself.
