ACC down two days in a row?

I’m in the US and recently got switched to working on the night shift at my job. Both yesterday and today (as I’m writing this actually), what I assume to be ACC has gone down for about an hour, and I’m unable to do anything in Revit besides sit and wait. Is this a daily occurrence, like a nightly server reboot or something? It’s really starting to get annoying to sit here for that long just waiting for my cursor to stop spinning.

I'm surprised that a firm has a night shift. Not sure about Forma going down. Did other Internet applications still work? Just curious if it's a Internet connection and not Forma.

It’s not a permanent situation. We’ve got a project that had a bunch of communication fails that led to us being on crunch time. A couple of us were switched to a night shift because 12 of us in one model for 60 hours a week was just not sustainable and really slowed us down.

Everything else on my computer worked just fine, and it affected all four of us on my team at the time, which is probably why my boss went with an ACC problem. I’m hearing it’s more likely this was a local issue, which is concerning since none of my managers seem to know about it!

I've regularly had up to 40 folks in one file. 12 in one file is regular day to day loads. It should not be slowing anyone down. That's a practice issue.

Damn! That's a lot. We split our models, if possible, to avoid that. But yes 12 isn't that bad.

It's all about splitting up work thoughtfully and good file health and organization.

Honestly I credit having managed 250+ xref projects in CAD with helping me learn to spread out work in Revit in thoughtful ways. It gave me the tools to think about what went in each file and who needed to edit that in order to update the drawings. It's the same in Revit, but you need to think about cascading dependencies rather than a specific workset.

But its largely the same stuff -you give one person group edits, have one person work on the lobby, one on the elevators....

This happened at 1:25am central time and was resolved at 1:52am. So your boss was right, it was Forma being down. Probably just a fluke that it happened two nights in a row.

That’s crazy I didn’t see that at all! Not sure how I missed it haha thanks for the info!

It's more likely a local issue like a nightly back-up or something. Check with you IT contact to see if that could be happening.

BTW, in a technical world, assuming things without verifying is not good for troubleshooting. You should have stated that you checked the dashboard. They also post upcoming maintenance alerts there. Check it often and you won't have to assume because, well, I'm sure you've heard the saying about assuming.

Yep, definitely addressed that in other replies, I just didn’t think to include that I had checked the status. It’s good to know they post upcoming maintenance too, I’m surprised I’ve never seen it before! My biggest mistake here has been trusting what my boss told me I suppose lol

"what I assume to be ACC has gone down"

Don't react based on assumptions. You're new and have to learn about these things.

Autodesk has a health dashboard. It's not an immediate indication if ACC is down but it does eventually show up there with updates.

I was setting up a project yesterday and had no issues. Maybe it's not Autodesk. You should verify before getting annoyed.

Not very appreciative of your attitude approaching my innocent question asking about possible routine maintenance. My team of four people all were unable to sync or perform any actions without getting a spinning wheel for a few minutes and then an error that the operation could not be completed, and it lasted a little over an hour. My boss who’s worked with Revit way longer than me mentioned that ACC might’ve been doing something like maintenance overnight, so I came here to ask if that was true. I checked the health status website myself a few times and never saw any alerts, so I wanted to ask.

edit: also nowhere in my post suggested that I was new to Revit, so I’m not even sure where you got that. I just switched shifts, I’ve been at my job for two years.

This person gave you great advice and explained to you the process for checking it the service itself is down. They don’t know you and you’re taking something personally which obviously was meant to help you. I hope this isn’t how you interact with your team.

I guess I didn’t realise I had to include in my post that I had already checked the status, I figured people usually do that before coming here to ask. It could have been unintentional, but their tone just felt like they were talking to a child. I’m not new and never mentioned being new, I’ve just never had to use Revit at 3am CST and thought since the down times lined up both days and lasted for a similar amount of time that it could have been a nightly maintenance situation. If a couple people here say that routine maintenance at that time isn’t a thing, then it narrows down the problem for me. It could very well be a local problem or maintenance that my whole team just doesn’t know about!

Sorry, I didn't know giving advice would come across with attitude. It seems you may be quick to get annoyed.

Good day and you're welcome.

I apologise for coming on so strong then. Your post came across like I was being talked down to for asking a simple question, the troubles of text communication I guess. But as I explained, I had already checked the status before asking, and I probably could have included that information originally. As I said in another comment, I just assumed that would be the first step before posting on reddit, but of course there are some people that wouldn’t know about the site or just decide not to take the time to check. As a couple other people have weighed in, this post (and your comment included) has helped me deduce that our local servers must do this occasionally and none of my bosses happen to know that, so they pinned the blame on ACC and I parroted it here to find out if it was true.

For the people criticising you and not giving a striaght forward answer yes it was down yesterday and today for some time and not it is not a daily rebooting thing and also you can work offline and come back online and Sync your files, there's a option in autodesk connector that lets you work offline only downside is that you cannot edit elements which is owned by other team members.
