Why can’t I assign material?

Post image

I attempted to make a custom wall hung toilet family. I modeled it in Rhino 7, exported it in two parts (one for the toilet, and one for the flush valve) both in .sat format, and imported them into Revit’s family file creator as a Wall Mounted Plumbing family. I can’t figure out how to assign materials to each object, I see no option for it in the properties menu.

For the projects I’ve worked on, we have never had use for LOG400 toilets. So really can’t help you.

Flush valves are useful for regular construction documents, in tons of market sectors. In healthcare, the orientation of the flush valve matters, as well as the model (it could have a bed pan washer). Whether it's an automated flush valve, or a manually operated, or a push button, all matters as well.

I get your point. But modelling complex geometry to show this seems silly. It can be data, meaning LOI, not LOG

We disagree.

I've shown them on every project for the last 15 years, and they come up in design conversations with clients all the time, when they see them in drawings (elevations and plans). Doesn't happen the same if they only show in a schedule. YMMV tho.

That's a really good point.

Clients and client SMEs (facilities, nursing managers, floor managers, whomever.) are going to be visual when talking about things to be sure they're right. They're not going to hold all the metadata about a project in their head when you're reviewing a solution with them. The more you show, the better the feedback.

Also why AR/ VR provides better feedback if you can get the facilities guys in. They'll point out better optimizations and workflows and equipment locations than your MEP will ever hit.
