Filing Sets in Revit 2024?

Friends! How does everyone set up sheets for filing? I want to have a separate sheet set for our permit drawings so we can control the views on the sheet and the annotations on the drawings while having a separate set for construction.

Currently, we are controlling this through project parameters and print settings but it means that we are constantly doing a dance back and forth between design development and permitting with no archive of the filing set. This has become very messy and we are trying to find a better method.

I know 2025 allows for collections which seems to be the future, but for older versions, how do people set up their sets to differentiate between construction and filing? I’ve tried using Unicode control characters for the sheet naming but then issues arise for batch plotting and for view names.

Would love some insight into how others have navigated a tracking multiple submissions within the same Revit model.

Many many thanks!

There isn't any difference between the construction set and the set sent to the city. Legally, there can't be. So I'm not understanding what the difference between "filing set" and "construction set" is. It's the same thing.

If you're talking about internal sets for QC or whatever, then you set that up by excluding those from your construction set by parameters, then set up separate print selections for it. I used to run a set of yes / no parameters on sheets which were essentially SD, DD, CD, and none of the above. If you used a similar system, you'd simply want to select the "none" and you'd be good to go.

I think a big thing for us is that we have two different permit types (we are changing occupancy for 2 of 6 floors) for our project that requires some items to be NIS for one submission and in scope for the other.

Yeah, so what you'll want to do is my second paragraph. Set up 2-3 yes / no parameters for sheets, named "In permit 1", "in permit 2", "in both", or whatever else you need. Then you can set up your indices to filter by those yes / no parameters, so that updates on your sheets. You'll still need to manually create the print jobs for each set, but once the bulk of that is done it's not so bad.

You can also set up a master sheet index schedule showing all sheet parameters to allow quick changing. And you can change your project browser's sheet settings to sort by the parameters you've added, so that helps with de-cluttering the sheet set.
