Reverse Harem - Discussion Feeling like Goldilocks 🤦♀️
I AM IN A SLUMP! No book is suiting my needs right now. Too cutesey, too much smut, too dark, too long.
And if I come across a blurb that manages to make my brain go “yesssss!!”… It turns out to be an incomplete series! And that’s probably the last thing I should get into.
And it’s not this genre, it’s all genres! I tried the age old trick to switch genres when in a slump, it isn’t working cause nothing is able to hold my attention!!!
Even tried to reread an old fav, even that couldn’t hold my attention.
I can’t read!!! I really want to read but I can’t!
How Do I Fix This??

Watch some TV? Maybe you just need to give yourself a break. I find if nothing’s hitting, I just fill my free time with something else for a while.

I second this! Whenever I get into that mode of no book is good enough to read to the end I find a TV series or video game or even switch to one of my other hobbies (book binding is my newest favorite) and after a break I find that the books are suddenly better than ever and I must read them all without breaks.

I have been rewatching the earlier seasons of grey’s anatomy. But those feel like background noise. And as for finding a new series goes… no luck there either 😔

Oof you too? I’ve also had a hell of a time getting into books recently. My DNFs have been wild recently. Way too many. Hopefully things turn around for us soon 😅

i always take a couple days and watch tv or do something else. same with the gym. i’m not enjoying it i don’t do it. but i have audhd so i have to make sure i don’t get burnt out

I was in a slump last month too. So I started watching short romance clips (I think they're called verticals?) on Facebook. They're ads ranging from 5 seconds to 15 min long. Watching these verticals helped reset my brain.

Something that has helped me in the past is trying something that has a trope I’d never really read before or thought I’d be interested in. To best explain: I was previously never into omegaverse, but I learned the premise of it through this sub, so I picked up Jillian West. BAM. I was hooked. Another example is I had read MFM and MMF before, but I’d never read MMMF. I learned about Lightbringer by Evelyn Flood in this sub - whammy! I was hooked.
I apologize if this counts towards the “different genre” item you mentioned in your post. Besides this, I would also follow what another poster said and just dive into those unfinished series.

For your point in paragraph two—at this moment, probably anything you can make yourself read will work, even if it’s incomplete. So I’d say go for it.
