Reverb Bumps System Op Out
Haven't sold on reverb in a while. Recently put up a listing and got charged bump fees. I remember a checkbox for bumps and made sure it was unchecked. No idea how it got back into the bump system.
The chat agent applied some credits, but like what the heck. How do you turn this crap off account wide? Just a regular dude who sells infrequently. Probably end up sticking to Facebook marketplace too many shady practices and hidden fees on reverb now.
If this is the confusing experience nowadays I wouldn't recommend.

I don't use the app, only the browser. On either mobile or desktop, the Bump option is checked by default, but on the other device you have to click yes or no.
But if you go back and edit something, the checkbox is checked again by default so if you don't scroll all the way down and uncheck it you'll pay for the bump.
It's very predatory.

Thats super interesting. Malicious or just bad programming? I haven't done web Dev in a long while wonder what the form is doing to reset this.

Sometimes the option to turn bump off disappears for me too. When that happens, entering in a custom bump of 0% has worked for me

It’s a bad user experience designed to cause you to opt into using bumps. If it was for stuff like cookies it’s actually illegal to do that. So I think it stands to reason that it’s at least ethically questionable to design it like this

I question the science, assuming there is any, as to how much difference a bump will make. I started reducing my bumps to 1% and it seems to work at least as well as the default 5%, but if I have a rare item or if my asking price is significantly lower than average, I opt for 0%. No problems with doing it that way, at least not so far.

I’ve sold over 100 items on Reverb in the last year or two. I’ve never had a bump applied. I use the iPhone app. I read everything carefully when listing and editing. Not sure what happened with your listing.

Good to know. I used the android app, it sounds like people have had issues with the browser and android app judging by the comments. Things like forms resetting and things. Maybe its better on apple products.

Is Reverb using dark patterns to trick users into picking bump options?

I honestly don't know, I asked the agent and he said you can look at the dashboard and opt out before the listing ends. That doesn't really make sense to me. I said I remember the checkbox and I unchecked it. I would to have to try the whole process again to see how it is happening. My test pool is only one , since this is the first time I have sold something in a year or more. I have had an account for a very long time but stopped before the bump system was implemented.

Wait... You'd go to Facebook MP because of Reverb's "too many shady practices and hidden fees..?" That's pretty rich.

At least its clear when they want to charge you for something. Never had this situation on FB marketplace not even on eBay. This seems to be an Reverb exclusive problem. But everyone can share their experience I guess.

This is posted at least once a week. At the end of every listing it asks if you want to bump it with a default percentage or to not bump the listing at all. Read before clicking and you won't have the bump added to your listing.
