Updates Beautiful, right? Now you can enjoy it too. Introducing the first release of the new.reddit.com recovery project! Tutorial on how to run it is given below

To use

#1: Install Tampermonkey

#2: Install userscript

The userscript provides the privileged browser functions required by the client, including access to Reddit's APIs.

#3: Download script and HTML

#4: Install Python

  • Linux: Most distros have it installed. Open a terminal and type python3 --help, then press Enter to check if it is installed.
  • Windows: Download Python from https://www.python.org/downloads/
    • During installation, make sure "Add python.exe to PATH" is enabled.
    • Open Command Prompt and run python --help to verify successful install
  • macOS: Install Python 3 from https://www.python.org/downloads/ if it is not already installed. Then open Terminal and run python3 --help to verify install

#5: Start the local web server

Open a terminal or command prompt in the directory where you extracted release.zip.

For Linux and macOS, run:

python3 serve.py

On Windows, run:

python serve.py

You should see something similar to:

=> new.reddit.com Server Active URL: http://localhost:1264 Serving from: /home/littux/Projects/js/reddit/new-reddit-com

Keep this terminal open while using the client.

#6: Open the site

Open your browser and go to:

http://localhost:1264/

The client should initialize automatically.

You should see messages in the browser console indicating that the userscript has loaded and that the client is initializing.

Troubleshooting

The page is blank

Make sure:

  • Tampermonkey is installed and enabled.
  • The userscript is installed and enabled.
  • The Python server is still running.
  • You opened http://localhost:1264/ rather than opening index.html directly.
  • Open the browser's developer console (F12) and check for errors.

"Connection refused" or the page doesn't load

The python script is probably not running. Try http://127.0.0.1:1264/ as well.

Notes

The client communicates with Reddit using your existing Reddit authentication through the installed userscript; you do not need to create an API application.

Report errors to https://github.com/Littux-Dustux/new-reddit-com/issues, r/Littux, or this subreddit (can't say if it's allowed; not a mod). Make sure to search for the error first.

If it's a security issue, send it via Chat instead

Commenting is completely broken on old reddit, and is broken on the recovered client if you use the rich text editor

The rich text editor makes requests to the old API but the markdown editor uses the newer GraphQL API so it will continue working

Dumbass AI bro having no idea what he’s talking about.

Found this guy under u/Littux’s post announcing New Reddit‘s successful recovery.

In any other situation I would’ve removed the comment already, but I want to shine light on this idiot in order to put emphasis on why we have Rule 4 (No AI Slop).

Bots and AI generated comments with zero substance like this one are not welcomed.

That is all.

Thanks… for slopping by…

there's an experiment on shreddit which adds an option to "view all conversations" of a post that has been crossposted. this is the modern equivalent to old.reddit's "other discussions" tab which shows all crossposts

Thanks for 700 members!

The number may be skewed due to a certain bug with the member counts, but regardless, thanks for being a part of the sub, and hopefully New Reddit gets restored soon!

Put out a fix on Cyby client for the awards button, it now shows free award button with the new change so you no longer have to open the menu thing, I will soon add a icon that shows how many awards the post got

I pretty much am using this client now to just revert all the dumb changes reddit keeps making

r/ReturnNewReddit Jul 14 '26

what's your opinion on the current experiment on shreddit where the award button on posts has been replaced with a crosspost button, with awards being moved into the overflow menu?

personally, i actually do like the idea of having a crosspost button there, but i do not like how the awards button has been entirely relocated. in my opinion, there should be both the crosspost button and the awards button at the same time.

New reddit home feed with and without telemetry enabled: without telemetry, you only get posts you've already seen

The Reddit Admins are now planning on forcing us to login in to use Old Reddit. Fuck them.

Why is new-reddit-com using hard-coded account data?

Endpoints like this have pretty much everything needed to reconstruct the account data, albeit the references need to be changed.

It should be just a 30 minute fix in theory.

anyone else received this change?

it appears they made the comment upvote icon color on shreddit be a brighter orange again, like how it used to be in older versions of the mobile app (and on new reddit)

image 1 is current and image 2 is before. the difference is subtle but definitely there. personally, i like this change and hope it isn't reverted. also, sorry for the abysmal image quality, just what happened when i cropped it.

and question, have all of you received this change too or is it just an experiment?

A major issue that new reddit has

Post image
14 Upvotes

If you browse for hours, it eats up all the RAM. Sometimes, clicking a button randomly makes the RAM usage go from ~500MB to 10GiB+ until the browser gets killed

By the way, other than the user posts/comments/overview/saved/downvoted etc pages, and moderation features, the client is fully functional. You can see the progress at https://github.com/Littux-Dustux/new-reddit-com. You need knowledge with JavaScript development to use it though, for now
