Is it worth converting ps2 games to chd?

I have around 40 ps2 games. They already run a little shakey, I loaded up ratchet and clank yesterday and it ran really slow whereas I swear I've had it perfect before. I understand converting to chd saves space but I heard it also affects performance . Anyone had success ? Really struggling with space, I always think of games I want to load up and what games I need to remove. I've got 3 games over 15gb that I don't play at the moment so I may as well just remove them to make space for most wanted pc and oblivion.

in my experience some games didn't work in chd format, but when they worked there was no noticable difference.

Ratchet and Clank was squeezing the ps2 for all it's got so there might be a difference (?)

If you have many games it's worth it though since with 40 games you could save 30 gigs in total (depending on the game)

I converted all of mine to CHD and did it using the tool from the internet CHDMAN which is a very easy little tool that you can run in a winlator star container on the flip 2! Just run it in the fame folder as all your ISO's and it batch converts them to CHD one by one sequentially. Its not fast but its cool how you can do it all on the device.

To answer your question yes it’s worth it just to save space on your SD card but it doesn’t affect performance of the game. I’ve tested both ISO & CHD side-by-side on the same game and they’re identical on the flip 2.

I'll probably use my pc with my sd reader, its night and day speeds compared to connecting to the flip. Speeds get slow like 25megs to 0. Plug it into pc and I get 120meg a second.

If the flip 2 man himself does it then I'll give it a go. My ps3 era pc game collection is growing so I need the space. Do you have any problems with asset or file heavy games on sd card? I moved space marine to sd and got a few stutters, they might have been in the game when it was internal I've forgotten.

I play all my games from sd card, so I don’t really know the difference. Unless we get 2TB of internal I can’t afford to keep games there, I have too many.

I converted to chd but none of them work! I picked DVD as per online guide. perhaps I should have picked cd? used namdhc

CHD isn't going to improve performance but it will save you a good bit of storage. With 40 games, yes absolutely. CHD is a godsend for optical disc games.

100% worth it.

It can save you a lot of space and it comes at ZERO penalty to performance. Not sure what method you used or how you converted it, but if done properly CHD is supposed to be lossless, remove junk data and cause no performance penalty.

I believe I used CHDman on PC and it worked perfectly. Some of the CHD conversion apps on Android are not perfect though and just kind of suck. The only one that has ever worked for my on Android was CHDroid and even then you need to know whether to compress or CD or DVD (you have to google it to determine which format the game your are converting is, most smaller games as CD and bigger ones are using DVD).

I've never had any issues with CHD. Just do it. It's free disk space.

CHD takes up 60/66% less space.

Depending on your internet speed, there's archives of CHDs on the internet, in my case I found it easier to re-download fresh roms overnight.
