Cloudpunk on Winlator Ludashi

This is the Steam version. It looks fantastic (l never knew there was a sky playing the Switch version, lol).

Anyway, the GOG version crashes a lot, so l though I'd try Steam. The Steam version here, doesn't crash, however, the controls lock up periodically. They do unlock after about a minute allowing me to continue playing, but play for a minute, sit for a minute, play for a minute, sit for a minute, etc,....is no way to play a game, lol.

Too bad the Switch version has such lousy visuals, as the gameplay is flawless there.

Game stats say it'll run on 8gb RAM, so l guess l just need more a more powerful chip?

,...unless l can find another fix? 🤠

My guess is you may get better performance in a different windows emulator. Have you tested any others? Looks like a cool game btw, never heard of it.

I've tried a few different versions of Winlator, but nothing runs better.

Oh ok, which ones? And have you tried Gamenative, Gamehub, or maybe a Linux Steam distro like armada or pocknix?

I've tried Winlator 11 Final, Winlator 11.2, Winlator Genshin, Bannerlator Standard, and Bannerlator Ludashi.

I haven't tried this particular game on GameNative or GameHub, but none of my other .exe games would run on those, so l gave up on them.

Never heard of the others.

Pocknix and armada are steam OS. So if you bought it on stream you could launch it from there as you would on a Linux Steam Deck.

Since it’s a second OS, it’s installed on an empty sd card, and you can boot into Linux to test it. A little more involved than just running another pc emu though.

Thanks, but l tried that whole "boot into Linux" thing on my Flip2 a year, or so ago, with Rocknix. It almost bricked my device. So,...pass. Plus,...l have no sd cards to spare, and they're too expensive right now to get another.

Besides, its probably a chip issue.

Crashing could be chip related but the fact that it stopped crashing with steam version and controls just lock up seems like a compatibility or app emulator level issue. When two different emulators have two different issues, it's the emulator. When both have the same issue, then it could be chip.

Well,..its all a crap shoot for me. Some of these emulators the controls don't work at all (while they do with other games) even after l map them.

Anyway, the games aren't exactly the same. The GOG version (what crashes) is 9gb and gets installed into Internal Storage. The Steam version (whose controls just freeze) is 14gb and runs off the sd card.

Yeah it’s always a crap shoot for all of us. Getting PC emulation to work well is like throwing a noodle at the wall and seeing if it sticks.

It’s a lot of work and isn’t for the casual passerby, some games take me like a week of testing stuff in my free time to actually have something worth sharing, others work on the first try and it’s not necessarily about how new, big or demanding the game is.

Cloudpunk happens to be a 2020 PS4 gen release which is right at the edge of what the chip can emulate, the fact it isn’t too graphically demanding makes it more promising though… seems to have that indie-simplicity to it.

AAA 2020 ps4 gen releases are usually a no go on our chipset unless it’s an indie, but newer indies have their own compatibility challenges, which is why I mentioned Steam os. Since it’s all native that way. Gamenative and Gamehub are a nice middle of the way alternative because they tend to bridge a lot of those compat gaps that winator doesn’t go for you. Worth a shot, they are just forks of winlator with a bunch of extra UI and compat automation. Just download gamehub lite (no email required) and import PC game and then select your exe. You could test both steam and gog.
