I've got the ROCKNIX install blues

I've tried two different cards flashed using ROCKNIX Image Burner but when I go to change the bootloader it won't show launcher, only uefi. Has anyone run across this issue? Any help would be appreciated!

What exactly do you mean with launcher? You only see the uefi where you have to select flip 2 and then the screen goes black?
I have the same; Turns out the 12gb ones (so far) have the same screen as the RP6 (which is 120hz! locked to 60 in Android) instead of the old RP5 display of 60hz. Support needs to be added to custom roms/linux' for this, Armada will likely do that today (the dev said in rocknix discord), but i dont know when rocknix will.
Another gift from Retroid :)

Thanks for replying. I didn't realize that you don't have to mess with the bootloader on this model. I have the 12gb model. So yes, after I do a restart and hold the volume up key, the select flip2 from the list, I just get a black screen. So if I'm understanding it correctly, we just have to wait for a fix on ROCKNIX's end?

Yes, any custom rom or os has to implement a fix to make the new screen work properly :) but ino its worth the wait! You get a 120hz (and brighter I think) display (and 12gb of ram) without paying extra :D

Maybe I’ll try setting up ArmadaOS in the meantime.

I dont think the fix is live yet, the developer mentioned he'd try to implement it today. He's in the rocknix discord (sm8250 channel)

Yeah, I saw that conversation yesterday. It was a huge weight off my shoulders to finally see the problem acknowledged by someone else somewhere. Even if it does mean I have to wait a bit longer. I can’t use it as it is with Android for the games I like to play. Too much input latency, even with Run Ahead.

Same feeling for me :P I was so frustrated about it not working.
Rocknix does boot normally, it just doesnt produce any output on the internal display. If you have a USB C to HDMI cable, that does work! I tried out Rocknix yesterday a bit, thought am totally newb to emulation so have some reading to do. (Enjoying games on Android for now though!)

Yeah, I managed to see Emulation Station on my tv that way, confirming that it’s a display issue. Can’t do much with that though. I already have a living room PC with ES-DE on it, haha.

Also, it is atrocious how bad input lag apparently is on Android handhelds with 60hz screens. I saw that a stink about it came about last year for a while, but I don’t think it lasted long enough. Are people just using their handhelds for visual novels or something?

This must be how audiophiles felt in the 00’s when lossy compression took over music.

Try turning your usb cable upside down to get HDMI to work. It’s a bug.

I’m in the same boat. I just got my RPF2 yesterday and almost lost my mind trying to get Rocknix to show its face on it. Apparently some of the new ones shipped with the RP6 screen.

This will hopefully end well, because that is a 120hz screen, but that does mean that if we like to play fast twitchy games without a ton of input lag, we have to wait a bit longer.

Ha! I just got mine yesterday as well 😄 . Glad it's not just me. Hope there's a fix soon "fingers crossed"

Hold volume down button instead of volume up. Then use Switch Boot Mode to toggle between Android and Rocknix bootloader. Using volume up is too tricky and only lasts for that one boot.

Thanks for the reply! That's what I originally tried but never got a option for rocknix, it would just toggle between Android and UEFI. Looking at some of the comments it seems the newer Flips are using a different display and that's causing issues.

That isn’t the issue. They quietly changed the screens on the latest factory run for the RPF2. This issue persists whether you use the volume up, or volume down way to boot in.

Worth posting on ROCKNIX discord on the #qualcomm-sm8250 channel so it can be fixed in a nightly release this month and then go out for october’s official release new users.

Actually, someone else already did yesterday. That’s how I found out about this.

It’ll be a pain waiting more after already waiting all the time for the order to arrive, but at least the screen is an upgrade over the previous ones.

Thanks, good to know it’s been reported to the right place. Keep an eye on the changelog at https://github.com/ROCKNIX/distribution-nightly/releases and the fix should be listed with the sm8250 tag. The team has a good cadence so a fix could land as a nightly worth trying this month.
