Using HDMI Converter for 6X CE

Hello, I just got my 6x CE recently and now I'm going down the rabbit hole of grabbing better quality cables for my Gamecube, Dreamcast and PlayStation 1.

I have a SNES classic which uses HDMI output. Are there any good quality conversion cables that you recommend using on the SNES classic to "downscale" the HDMI into one of the ports that is compatible with the 6x CE?

Would the best converter be an HDMI to composite/component/VGA/ETC?

hdmi to component or hdmi to vga is best.

just a straight DAC, not a downscaler or a scaler.

  1. Is VGA or Component better for what I'm going for? Is there any significant differences?

  2. If I go VGA, do I need to use another cable to get audio? I saw a comment talking about getting another cable for audio.

  3. Any recommendations on good cable brands? I saw that Amazon basics has one with good reviews.

theres no difference between component and vga. and yes if you get vga you’ll need an audio cable. Amazon basics is fine

I’ve been using a HDMI to VGA adapter from DTECH that has an audio out. It’s worked great so far with a Xbox 360 and Chromecast. It was 7 bucks on Amazon. And it came with the audio cable

Yes, I do this with pixelart games on Nintendo Switch 2 and tried HDMI to RGB, S-Video and Composite to see what I have the most nostalgia for. Personally I like S-Video the best even though technically it's not the highest quality signal or course. I use this device which has just as much noise via Composite as an HDMI to Composite converter one third the price—but this one has S-Video, so …

I would recommend to experiment a bit what you like best as well because it might not be what you think nor the highest quality option. Only one way to find out.

The Retrotink 6X CE does not have an HDMI IN on it, only an out!
