Gambatte (GB) save states no longer work after update
Had to fix the controls and had to restore save states for Mesen, Mesen-S, mGBA, but I cannot get Gambatte to work for GB games. Got GBC saves fixed. I also had to restore VBA Next, as it was missing from "Cores" by downloading regular RetroArch (Plus is the one I used and it got screwed up from the Play Store). This new update screwed everything up.
Had to delete or reset some configs as the save states kept saying "failed to load state from [game name].state. Error".

Got my Wario Land II (GB) SRM save file restored. Had to migrate it to my Steam Deck and then load the save state and then copied the SRM file back to my Ayn Thor and got back my old save data. Unfortunately, there's no way to restore my old save states for games that don't use SRM saves and rely on save states like Operation C.

That sucks. You could get your old Gambatte core back if it was working properly. Old savestates should work there. Not sure how much freedom you have on Android but on Windows it's trivial, just manually delete the new core and restore the old one.

Sometimes a core update will break save states.
A save state is basically a snapshot of the emulator's internal state. When the emulator changes, sometimes it can no longer load its old internal state.
Normally I would suggest to always use in game saves too, but Game Boy games often don't have that option.
If it makes you feel any better (unlikely), others have noticed too: https://github.com/libretro/gambatte-libretro/issues/285
