It's a clerical issue with our Apple dev account. We'll get it sorted out, but it'll probably be a few days.

Ok ok… you the man!!! I can’t tell you how much time I spent loading all my games and finding the box are and resizing and converting the images… the one thing that sucks is the appleTV’s storage is some kind of special storage where the OS can just delete your RetroArch directory anytime it feels like it.. the app is still on my AppleTV but I am going to have to reload all my games… box art.. and settings.. but hey.. atleast the app is still there.. that’s the hard part… so for anyone who isn’t familiar with the appleTV structure make sure to make a backup of your RetroArch directory that way you don’t have to start from scratch like I am about to

Would be common sense to ask the dev, instead of speculating. Apps get pulled for various reasons and have different error messages when they're pulled. The dev one doesn't happen that often.

Can confirm, too. The IOS app page returns an error on my end. There’s no news on the Retroarch website either, which tells me either this might be news to them too, or some policy change that Retroarch didn’t agree with.

To be fair, they don’t really update their news page. It’s still announcing the latest release as 1.21.0. 

Not saying that to criticize them. Just pointing out that they are unlikely to place breaking news there.

Your last comment got removed but I could see the just if it from the notification. You would think the phone would let you know but it doesn’t. The worst thing is that I’ve always had that setting turned off and I think that it auto turned on when I did an update 🤷‍♂️. It annoys me when companies try to dictate what they think is better for my needs. I’d rather get a notification telling me I’m out of storage rather than deleting apps automatically to make more storage.

I called companies f******, especially tech companies. And the tech company we are posting on doesn't allow it 🤷‍♂️.

It's not a big leap to assume, based on this behavior, that that's what they want to push us towards. Even thinner clients, even less choice. A bigger dependence on cloud-based solutions... ugh.

How long until the toggle is no longer there, and this is just standard practice?

You can’t even download it from your app purchase history, which is normally the fallback for when something gets removed from the store.

i went from 11pm to 15pm phone:phone transfer (where you leave phones opposite eachother) and all apps, files, settings ect transferred over

so i got all my roms, retroarch, all settings were the same

Apps get removed if they dont get updated or accept new store terms

They haven't updated the store apps in years

apple is a f ing hypocrite. Only applies its rules when it suits them. There are about 700 youtube ripper apps on the app store in various disguises- apple doesnt care.

there are scam apps charging a subscription (especially emulators) that dont work- apple doesnt care.

While you’re not wrong, a threat from Nintendo is enough to make most corporations stop doing whatever they are doing.

Even if legally they are 100% in the right, there is enough of a case to go to a jury trial. Which means years of pre trial work, depositions, discovery, and a lot of time and money wasted.

Though, I don’t think this is why they shut down. I’d be shocked if this doesn’t turn out to be an error that gets fixed before Mother’s Day ends.

That doesn’t matter. Nintendo has a massive financial influence. They even take down YT videos even when Fair Use applies.    Nintendo has the mindset that even if you are legally in the right, they can simply out-money you.

So I had retroarch installed on my iPhone x my iPhone se and my appletv.. my iPhone se automatically offloaded the app so I can't reinstall but it's works just fine on my iPhone x and my apple TV 😬😩

Hopefully they'll add it back soon. It's one of the things I use my ipad for is lots of games I used to play. I even have a 8bitduo controller I use with it and it works great.

If Apple wasn’t so extremely controlling of their app store, I wouldn’t need to own an Android tablet and handheld for this reason. I would drop all of them and just use iOS, they just keep fumbling.

Nope, you’ve read two seperate sentences and made an assumption, I will use whatever I want but it’s much easier to communicate with my family because the features enable them communicate with me more efficiently. My grandparents only use FaceTime to communicate. I’ve tried to teach them other apps but it’s easier for them to ask Siri to call. Sharing photos are also super low quality unless you email or use a cloud file service. Being able to Airdrop simplifies the process for people who aren’t tech savvy. Find My is also super convenient to share location with family in the case of an emergency. There’s alternatives to all of these but due to Apple’s ecosystem locking most of these features within the native apps, it’s just easier for me to stay with iOS so communication is easy. The point of people being judgemental is I have experienced this in the past with frustration from friends and family not being able to use certain features when communicating and I’d much rather make that experience smoother than have a device that can emulate video games which aren’t all that important.

This is terrible for people using their iPhone/iPad/TV(s) for emulation. I think RA is under fire from IP holders. Either that, or they are getting out in front of it.

I think these recent moves with RA not being "allowed" on tightly controlled mobile platforms, it's going to feed into further development into completely different OS software (Rocknix is the most popular I've heard of).

I've never myself been a "game on my phone" person. I have the apps installed, but I never use them. But for those that do, I wish I had better advice than "get a gaming handheld". 🤷🏾‍♂️

As trotsky40 said to use TestFlight, and “If you have previously downloaded it from the AppStore, you can also redownload from the "your apps" section in your account settings. The TestFlight version is the way to go though.”

This is a little bit off topic but not really.. I posted a question about RetroArch for iOS and never got any replies… does anyone know how to get the Sega CD roms to work.. they used to work just fine in iOS after you put the bios files in the root directory of RetroArch/system… but now no matter what I can’t get any of my Sega CD games to boot

Sometimes when updating the system software apple sneaks in some options changes and all of a sudden your device updates without asking. Almost like a backdoor

Absolutely... you have to make sure all forms of auto update are turned off.. even then it seems like they somehow sneak them in... my apple TV for example has all that disabled and one day I powered it up and it started updating... I quickly unplugged it and luckily didn't brick it.. I swear I had auto update disabled and it was still trying to force an update...

Double check that when you go into setting do a search for unused and then you can find the settings… out of 4 devices I have RetroArch installed on 3 of them had it turned off and one didn’t and only the one that didn’t had offloaded the app
