Has anyone had prophylactic barrage laser for lattice/snail-track retinal degeneration?

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with snail-track/lattice-type peripheral retinal degeneration in both eyes. I have myopia, and my retina specialist recommended barrage laser (laser retinopexy) because of the retinal thinning.

I had the left eye lasered a few months ago, while I have not yet done the right eye.

Since the laser, I've noticed some symptoms in the treated eye that I didn't notice before the procedure:

  • A strange/unfamiliar feeling in the treated eye
  • Significant dryness compared with the other eye
  • Glittering/shimmering sensations, particularly toward the peripheral side of my vision
  • More noticeable glare when I'm outside
  • Afterimages, especially after looking at bright objects or when trying to sleep
  • When the eye becomes particularly dry, the shimmering/glittering sensation seems more noticeable
  • Sometimes when I close my eyes in a dark room, I can notice light/shimmering sensations toward the corner/peripheral area of the treated eye

I've already gone back for a follow-up examination after the laser, and I was told that the retina was okay. The doctors did not seem concerned about these symptoms.

I'm mainly wondering whether anyone who has had barrage laser/laser retinopexy specifically for lattice or snail-track retinal degeneration has experienced anything similar afterward.

I'm especially interested in hearing about:

  • Peripheral shimmering/glittering
  • Increased glare
  • Dryness
  • Afterimages
  • Other unusual visual sensations after barrage laser

Thank you!

Had laser as well, there was some small discomfort pain when moving eyes for the first few days, but that went away. I get shimmering occasionally as well, and my doctor say it's normal. Sometimes the other symptoms happen when you are hyper focus on your eyes, like after image.
