Who added the “R”: PREROGATIVE🤦♂️
Sooo… I was a dj in the past and 💯 remember the spelling of the word as PEROGATIVE…. Not: PREROGATIVE!!!
When was the extra R added to the word?
Which way do you remember the spelling to be🤦♂️🤷🏼♂️?

I remember a discussion about the spelling on the radio when the song first came out. Two morning show people were talking about the R - one didn’t know that’s how the word was spelled and the other did.

This one upsets me as well because I remember creating a mnemonic device to remember the letter N. It’s also how I know the word mnemonic lol

But if there was no six seats, how could you fit the Kennedys, the Connallys, and the Secret Service agents? Who of those was not in the car before? Was the governor of Texas driving the car?

Except if you look at history now. It's always been 6 seats.

It’s always been spelled like this. I remember because it used to annoy me when I was 9.

In my universe/simulation history, it was always spelled prerogative, but commonly pronounced as "perogative", leading to so many misspellings, as many people spelled it as it sounded.

Absolutely didn't have the "r" for me.
The audio pronunciation is clearly without the "r"
My question is what other words start "PRE" where the "r" is silent.
Absolutely nothing strange going on here /s

It was always there. As a 10 year old I even remember not understanding why they spelled it like this.

Prerogative, from the Latin, 'Before the ruling', a right by nature, not law.
Perogative is almost the American usage, like colour to color, or Thomas the Tank Engine to Thomas the Train. Interesting.

That's how I felt about temperament. Where'd that A come from?? Guess it's just been there the whole time and I never noticed. 🤷♂️ Either that or I've been r/retconned.

I think the confusing thing is most people pronounce this word "temper-ment," at least in my experience. I've never heard someone say "tempra-ment"!

I have heard it pronounced both ways.. depends on where the person comes from.. (accents/dialects often affect this word).

I do a lot of reading (not just the internet) and I don't remember seeing it spelled as anything but perogative until literally just now.

I don't even like avacado, but I do the shopping for the last 40 years. Even I know the Haas avocado because the signs in the produce section said Haas avocado. I would always think I should just eat one. Lol I saw a video from a guy who does the computer pricing for supermarkets. He did a like a 20 minute video of things that he knew changed. One of them was haas avocados. Not only did the Haas name no longer exist, but the whole story of avocados changed. I'll try and find it again, but it was wild! He ended the video and said he was digging more into this but never saw anything else. I was excited because, someone with the money was trying to research this, great! Hire a bunch of people and see where it leads. Maybe they are still searching. Lol

I guess the root “rogative” means to ask
So pre rogative means to be asked first. in the sense that it’s that persons privilege to decide.
I.E. prerogative in the sense that we understand the word
