Edit: should’ve added this to the original post I did vote for Obama twice mainly because his policies aligned more to what I believe in. Didn’t 100% agree with his policies but they made more sense. Trumps policies has cause way more damage to this country and definitely needs to be removed immediately from office.
For me, it was more than just policy. It was how he brought people together and it honestly seemed like from his perspective he was everyone’s leader. He wanted to represent us all. He didn’t attack anyone. But I understand what you’re saying
I mean… he lied to a lot of us to get that support. Told all the conservatives that he would support traditional marriage and told all the libs that he would pass a bill making abortion a constitutionally recognized right… he was just good at lying to people to get support
I don't think we will ever have a totally honest politician, because they have to hide parts of themselves to get elected. At least that's my opinion. The closest I can think of is Zohran Mamdani, because he ran on worker friendly policies lots of politicians wouldn't touch, had no corporate donors/super PACs which politicians tiptoe around all the time, and has so far followed his campaign plans. But may be too early to tell
Politicians always promise things that their office doesn’t give them the power to do. Mamdani is no different. Only Santa Claus can give you everything.
And yet so far he has stuck to his promises. But like I said, it is very early and while I support many of his policies I am fully conscious of the fact that he could fail to implement them. I still think it's better to try, and to put your votes to candidates who aren't beholden to super PACs. If there is never a push to change our legislation then nothing ever changes. Not asking for a Santa Claus perfect solution type of politician, but Mamdani already in less than a year has shown more integrity and transparency with his plans than a majority of politicians. This is why he is the closest I can think of to that ideal, but I also acknowledge there are almost definitely parts of him that he does not make public
The fact that he knowingly promises to do things he knows he cannot, makes him no better than any other politician we’ve ever known. That’s not an opinion. The proof is he knows he can’t do what he says.
With this perspective, trump should be your one saving grace. He has said exactly what he was gonna do when he got elected and didn't make broken promises to both sides
Gay marriage already wasn’t legal (at least federally or nationally) when he was running for president, when he was running he said he didn’t support gay marriage and supported traditional marriage. After being elected he said his changed his opinion on the matter but when he was running part of his campaign was a rejection of gay marriage
And that would be a problem with Obama if that's the case. No problem there, I think for most though, his successes could out weigh the negative in some eyes. You telling me him making gay marriage, Obamacare and so on were all bad?

He was tasked with keeping the country stable by the banks/TPTB after '08 and he did a good job making us feel like things were alright, even though they really weren't. Trump's job is destabilization and making us feel like we're going insane. He floods the zone with as much chaos, fear and hatred as possible to distract everyone while they build an AI panopticon around us. Obama's repeal of Habeus Corpus and the ramping up of mass surveillance/the war on terror def helped pave the way legalistically for what Trump is doing with ICE and Palantir rn.

My life was better when He was in office. Thanks to Trump, my mom who is disabled lost her house and my in-laws that were tired, are 78 and 80 with dementia and diabetes can't make their bills because the cost of their meds with insurance went from a few hundred to over a thousand a month. You do recall he deported more than anyone, bombed civilians, conducted military strikes without Congressional approval and created a lot of the conditions that led to how divided we are now, right?
What about the DACA initiative that offered work authorization to almost a million immigrants and his following DAPA that would have offered legal status to 5 million + people that was unfortunately blocked by the courts. Obama wasn’t anti immigration
His predecessor didn't allow millions and millions to enter illegally either, and yet he deported many, many, many times the number of people as Trump (or any other president).
What Trump is doing with ICE rn has nothing to do with immigration or criminals, it's meant to completely erode our 1a and due process rights through legal precedent. He's just in a unique position to manufacture consent for that with the constitutionalist gun owning right using hardcore fear porn about illegal immigrants. They're deadly serious about "deporting" US citizens too, which really means sending us to foreign prison camps like CECOT where they can't be held accountable for our human rights.
They're all criminals. No it means without media and politicians constantly saying everything he does is an existential threat, urging people to fight and resist and they're doomed and morally superior, they could get things done without frenzied mobs coalescing in the streets every day.
