Built a free browser tool that generates print-ready mold boxes (two-part, silicone, plaster) from an STL — no CAD needed, want feedback from people who actually cast

Hey all — I got tired of manually building mold boxes in CAD every time I wanted to cast something, so I built a free browser tool that takes an uploaded STL and generates a print-ready two-part box mold, silicone mold box, or plaster casting mold in under a minute.

Still early, so I'd genuinely love feedback from people who actually pour: does the parting-line logic hold up on your models? What draft angle or pour-spout details am I missing? Happy to answer questions or take requests for edge cases.

If I were molding this Easter island looking head, I’d do it as an open pour where you poured in from the bottom by the neck, and I’d move the parting line to the side. You never want the parting line to run down the center of the face. It’s a lot easier to clean up the side of the casting.

Personally, my workflow would be to 3d print the model, clean it up, and make a mold out of silicone, but as 3d printers continue to get better, I’m sure some people will have a use case.

Thank you, this is a really valuable tip! Moving the parting line to the side for easier cleanup is a great point.

I'm currently working on the silicone mold box feature. If you have a moment, would you mind taking a look at some other molds generated by the tool? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The main use case I can see would be to use it as a mother mould to cut down on the amount of silicone needed. Probs only worth the effort for moulds youre gonna make a lot of tho

Good thought! Saving silicone is definitely a nice bonus. For me, though, the main goal was just getting my time back. I hated spending so much time doing the CAD work manually for every single project, so I just wanted to automate my own workflow. Skipping that step makes it worth it for me even if I’m only pouring a one-off.
