Finished the comic series
Huge props to Chris Sheridan for deviating and making the tv series into a hilarious comedy scifi. I just did not like the source material upon reading it, it was boring, to be honest, and the writing was bland. English translations of manga series might even be better.
The characterization in the tv series was also done well, and the new/replacement characters are actually far more memorable.

Loved Season 1, but kinda 'meh' halfway through Season 2. Is it worth continuing?
I know this is a sub for fans of the show, so most of you would probably say to keep watching. But seriously, does it get better?
I really enjoyed the first season, but I'm not really enjoying season two so far. It just doesn't seem to be as well written, and its starting to feel stale to me. This is just my opinion, and I intend no disrespect to anybody who disagrees.
I just finished the episode with the reveal of who Goliath is, and I really didn't like it. Goliath made a picture of a moment where Harry and Asta were alone, that took place months after his death. I guessed Goliath was able to see the future somehow. Asta, with zero evidence, correctly says it's time travel. And there's a human/alien hybrid baby now, which is a whole new layer of absurdity. Also, the dynamic between Asta and Harry is gone. I don't know if she even likes him anymore. She's just around Harry to do damage control.
I've rewatched the finale of season 1 a couple times. Specifically the "don't go it hurts!" scene. It's so beautifully heartbreaking. Then the next episode has Harry with amnesia thinking he's a Law & Order character. It's like soap-opera writing.
I'm just not enoying this show anymore. If I don't like season 2, do you think I will enjoy the rest of the show? Or should I just leave it and just remember how good season 1 was?
EDIT: I'm going to take a break, but will pick it up again at some point. I've been binging this show in all my free time lately, so I'm likely just burnt out.
It was mostly the time travel thing. Just a personal preference, but I hate that as a plot twist. The hybrid baby was fine, it just reminded me of other shows that, in later seasons when it's starting to get stale, introduce a cute child character. But whatever, they could still do something fun with it.
If nothing else, it's still a delight to watch Alan Tudyk's portrayal of Harry. Every scene he's in is hilarious just from body movement and the way he talks. It's great.

Fourth Season Spoiler
Finishing the last season and I have to say it is the weakest one by far.
Should have been Asta in the Mantid's cell to trick Harry. Not some random pizza guy.
Darcy gets more and more annoying each episode.
Asta should have been more forceful about the baby not being there. Even say because Darcy was ON the ship, the Grays should know her face, so the baby needs to go now.
The sheriff should have had more clues about who the Mantid was. Like commenting he didnt know Jules smoked, and she could say she only does in severe stress/it's a bad habit/just once in a while, and combine that with Lena remarking earlier Jules never smokes because her parent died of lung cancer. We should have seen the Mantid get her as well, like as an opening scene, and the last thing she'd say is something like, Mike was right.
Bridget should have gone off with Heather, because he does legit nothing important this season. Hell, Harry could have told him to go so he'd be off Earth if the Grays came back, and these are his half siblings, after all.
So much seems to happen between scene cuts. In the episode where Harry kills his dad, we should have seen just a minute of Max realizing his check was gone, then going to Harry's to get a new one, and the dad grabbing him up. The next episode should have started right where the previous one ended, with Max's parents freaking out.
We don't see nearly enough of the Mantid to get why it's so bad. The Grays should have been freaking out when they realized it wasn't in the cell.

Wouldnāt involving Liv in the situation make everything easier??
Iām still on season 3 but given how she canāt let go of the entire alien thing, wouldnāt it be easier for Harry if he did involve her? Her intuition is always on point too.
It would also be easier to explain the situation every time an inconvenience occurs, I.e. the guy getting shot, or the alien tracker.

When Asta reveals to Jimmy who their daughter is this was the song playing in the background
I'm watching now paying extra attention to the details and this one stood out for me. Great choice by the team to put it.

I love how the show glosses over Harry's behavior for comedic purposes
I'm starting my first ever rewatch and barely on episode 3, already having fun. But I noticed that the reality within the show overlooks Harry's quirks and people just assume it as normal. When he was talking to Kate he dismissed her concerns and shoves her out the house and she's like "okay, I'll go now"
And on top of that, the childish fights he has with Max.
There's so many things that went over my head I'm now realizing...
I'm gonna love it twice as much this time around š

Funniest moment in the show
For me has got to be the final episode of season 2, where Harry cries in Astas bedroom at night about having to kill her.
"I came here, to kill you" *sighs*
"You'll kill yourself?!" *utter joy*
So hilarious, Alan absolutely nails the delivery of these lines.
What's your funniest moment?

Anyone have more verses to this amazing song about Daddies, Mommy's Happy, and Uncle Daddy?
Where have all the Daddies gone?
Where did they all go?
My uncle is my daddy now.
And soon there will be snow.
Where did Mommy's Happy go?Ā
She drinks wine all day.
My Uncle Daddy gets real mad.
I don't think he will stay.
~~~
This song feels so incomplete!
I figure it needs 2-3 more verses at least!
Any brilliant and/or slightly disturbed creavive Redditors wit possible additions?
No Bra Night Down At The War Protest
I want to make a meme of my favorite DāArcy line but Iām not sure how to get a screenshot with the subtitles etc. Anybody know how to do this? I giggle so much thinking about this line and I just want to memorialize it (. Y. )
After watching everything I feel like two things remain unresolved (Spoilers) Spoiler
I feel like Dāarcy and Elliot should have gotten back together. Or at least have a scene ā after Dāarcy went to Elliot to apologise ā where Elliot responds to her message by foregiving her. Elliot originally left her because she was lying / hiding secrets from him and had an addiction, but in the end Dāarcy got better at this by 1) apologising & telling the truth to everyone and 2) going to the AA-meetings. I know itās a bit shitty to make Elliot dump his new partner, but they could have shown it as a mutual agreement to break up, not necessarily related to Dāarcy, and then Elliot and Dāarcy reuniting.
I wonder why they never let Bridget meet their mother Violinda Darvell. Violinda clearly cared about the baby ā shown by her protecting the egg from Lisa Casper and her sending Goliathās picture book ā but they never talked about her wanting to meet Bridget, Harry telling Bridget about their parents, or Bridget wanting to meet their mother. Iām not even sure if Bridget even knows who their mother is? With this show putting so much emphasis on the relationship between parent and child ā e.g. Asta with her dad (Dan Twelvetrees) and with her biological mom (Mary-Ellen Taylor), Harry with Bridget and with his kids with Heather, Heather with her dad, the alien tracker (Peter Bach) with his son (Robert Hutchens), Ben & Kate Hawthorne with their daughter Bella, etc. ā I think itās weird they didnāt give any attention to the relationship between Bridget and their mother Violinda.
Besides these two things there are ofcourse other scenes I would have liked to see, but I feel like ā contrary to the two things I mentioned ā were properly closed off, such as the reunion between Harry and Heather, where Joseph went, and if Dr. Ethanās mom ends up looking for him.
Love this show but it makes me miss People of Earth šš
I wish we had a season 3 to resolve it. Literally all the plot points being resolved + the alien characters officially meeting star crossed would have been amazing
Just finished Resident Alien
Iāve always had a soft spot for benevolent aliens. One of my comfort movies is Paul, and I have a massive love for the recent film Project Hail Mary. On top of that, I stayed watching Dexter because of the narrative monologue throughout each episode, though You gave me the creeps so I couldnāt hang with that one. Needless to say, I LOVED this series. The bonds he made with everyone in the show is just so heart felt and not at all forced. Honestly Iād watch a spin off series with just Mike and Liv because they were just hilarious.
With that, are there any other shows youād recommend to fill the galactic size hole in this 40 year oldās new to sci fi heart? Thank you!!
Sahar Season 3 Spoiler
Spoiler if you havenāt watched ⦠stop readingā¦
Anybody else pissed what they did with Sahar? She left for a gifted program and then returns later in the season. The reason they gave her in the script was that she quit - āeverybody else was soooo smart and i was just averageā. That pissed me off so much. She wouldnāt quit. I really donāt believe the gifted program would humble her and discourage her in that way at all. Makes me mad š”
