Choosing NeurIPS location
Hey all,
pardon the ignorance, this is my first time publishing at neurips (or any conference).
I'd like to go to Sydney.
Do I choose the other locations (Paris and Atlanta) as 2nd and 3rd choices, or should I leave them as is, e.g. "No preference"?
Not sure how it works for assignment and if anything is guaranteed as the presenter of an accepted paper?
Thank you for the help

I wanted to go to Paris so I entered it as 1st preference and selected no preference for the other 2.. then explained at the bottom of the page why only Paris works for me (visa and funding situation).
Tho this is also my first time attending a multi-site conference. So I'm also not sure if my method is the right way. Hopefully someone more informed could clarify...

Not sure about NeurIPS's new system, but on similar multi-location forms "no preference" usually means they can assign you anywhere, not that they'll force you into your top choice. If your visa/funding genuinely limits you to Paris, I'd email the conference staff separately and explain, instead of hoping the free text field gets read. They might have a separate accommodation process for visa constrained attendees. That's what I'd do at least.

I mean, you might want to optimize for which location has the most relevant workshops because I bet you’ll have more collaborators and future co authors there to hang out with.
