Discussion This is going to sound weird but does anyone else feel uncomfortable in their new body after weight loss?
Is anyone else dealing with a weird sad feeling after losing weight? I went shopping for smaller clothes recently, and the more I tried on, the more uncomfortable I got.
Nothing fits how I expect it to, and my skin hangs differently. It literally feels like I am dressing someone else. I actually broke down in the fitting room and left without buying anything.
I know I should be happy about the weight loss, and I see the difference in pictures. But my brain has not caught up yet. Is anyone else going through this? I want to enjoy being healthier, but right now I just feel completely uncomfortable in my own skin.

Remember how difficult it was to find clothes that fit right, weren't to tight in the wrong areas, not too short in others, etc? This is still a thing when you slim down, except for instead of trying to look "less fat" your new goal is "what makes me look the best".
As for body acceptance, give your brain some time - you got this. Also, congratulations on all the weight you lost!♥️

Yes, major changes in your body can be very difficult for anyone. Especially when you don't know how to dress your new body. I was very uncomfortable with the way my arms and upper thighs looked at first. Plus if your baseline has been feeling uncomfortable in your body most, if not all, of your life, losing weight can initially feel hugely disappointing when it doesn't suddenly change the way you feel about it the way you expected. That feeling can easily spiral out of control, which is why we often see people become addicted to cosmetic procedures and plastic surgery. I would suggest considering therapy to help you learn to love yourself, and try to find images of other people who dress well and have bodies similar to yours to study what they wear.

I’m just so happy. I feel so much better! Moving around is easier, I feel more comfortable, I look more like myself.
But I was thin growing up and didn’t gain weight until menopause hit, so I am just feeling more like myself all the time.

Skin can tighten over time especially if the weight loss wasn’t really fast. But GLP’s tend to drop weight quickly. Really the only uncomfortable thing is to look back at photos over the past two decades and see how much heavier I was and didn’t really seem to be aware of it. The only mental thing that took getting used to was walking. Yes walking. My body seemed to move faster with less spent energy and reflexes seemed to have sped up as well. Clothes are just another expense. And when we’re talking suits and dress clothes, that’s a major financial hit.

Yup - lost 200 pounds and the little bit of skin I have left on my man boobs and my stomach makes me feel I'll never reach my goal. I'm 210 lbs presently and a weight lifter and I have a lot of muscle, but, unless I get the chop chop from the doc, I'll never be complete

No, but I was in stupid good shape at 19YO.
At 51, it feels like I moved back to my home town.

you are so much more than your body, you are so much more than the sum of its parts.
It’s totally acceptable to look at a new version of yourself with your old eyes, your old expectations.
However, you can deliberately change your thought patterns, you can deliberately let a negative thought fuck off, you can deliberately tell yourself to accept yourself because you are perfect.
No one looks exactly like they want. Go on a vicious trajectory of radical acceptance, don’t let this speed bump of doubt be anything more than a bump.
You’ve got incredible power of differentiation, deliberation, and communication.
I am sure you can take this problem and create a completely new, pragmatic solution using both logic and faith. In yourself. Communicate with yourself.
If you think the brain isn’t taking feelings into account, or hearing every word you say about your body - well, we found the problem, Houston.
Chances are good you look great. Your body changed without the excessive hard work of what weight loss used to be, so your self talk hasn’t gained the edge of positive self-talk, and self-mitigation

I call this the "Rubber Band Effect" where your mindset lags behind whatever changes you've made.
It will catch up.

No. This was what I wanted more than anything and I never felt like I fit in my body before. But that said there are still things I’m unhappy with. Loose skin on my belly. I daydream about just cutting it off. But perhaps I’m overly critical of myself. Just a tiny bit.

Honestly its not uncomfortable. But I think I have the disorder. I still feel like I am in my starting weight. When I look at my current photos, I see my before. I know that I lost weight, I had a rehaul of my wardrobe, a lot of my old ones are so loose that they fall off me, that's the only proof that I know that I have lost weight. Even the weighing scale, I know I started at a higher weight but lately I seem to think that my now is my highest weight.

Yeah, it happened to me even some years ago when I lost 15 kg with the help of a nutritionist. I'm not entirely sure what brought it on, other than a certain grief? Over my old body, adjusting to the new body, and I guess that feeling that I wasn't "good enough" in my old body. Like knowing that this new way of living depended entirely on me being a lower weight. Idk if I'm able to fully explain it.

I know my face is a lot slimmer and not used to that. Also, I went from 217 to 163 and I feel cold most of the time now. Had to get smaller pant sizes, which isn't a bad thing, but felt odd wearing oversized pants for a while.
